\n China responded on Friday to US President Donald Trump\u2019s threat of an \u201ceconomic D-Day\u201d against Iran, saying that sanctions do not \u201cfit the interest of any party.\u201d\n <\/p>\n
\n On Wednesday, Trump vowed to impose \u201ctremendous economic consequences\u201d against countries that continue to do business with Tehran, with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent later urging Beijing to \u201cget with the program.\u201d\n <\/p>\n
\n China believes that \u201csanctions and pressure tactics are not the solution,\u201d Lin Jian, China\u2019s foreign ministry spokesperson, said in a news briefing on Friday. Lin urged the relevant parties to solve the dispute through negotiation and dialogue, and come to a political settlement.\n <\/p>\n
\n Beijing is a source of crucial economic support for Iran but has walked a cautious diplomatic line amid the US-Iran war, keeping communications open<\/a> with players on both sides. As for the leverage the US could wield over China however, Trump has increasingly limited options<\/a>.\n <\/p>\n \n Alongside China, Iran has also condemned what it called Trump\u2019s \u201cunlawful\u201d threat of an elevated economic campaign against Tehran.\n <\/p>\n \n Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the country\u2019s parliament speaker, said today that Tehran is prepared to \u201csacrifice our wealth\u201d to defend the country\u2019s \u201cdignity and honor,\u201d according to Iran\u2019s semi-official Tasnim news agency.
