\n\tJoachim Trier<\/a>\u2019s Oscar winner \u201cSentimental Value<\/a>\u201d became this year\u2019s biggest Amanda Awards<\/a> winner, taking home eight statuettes, including the top prize for best Norwegian film.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tTrier was also awarded for directing, as well as his screenplay written with longtime collaborator Eskil Vogt.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of stuff going on when you make and release films, and we both like to go back to that safe space and rediscover that calm where it\u2019s just our two voices. We are fortunate enough that our films generate more and more noise that we have to shut out, so when we work, we make it personal and small again,\u201d they told\u00a0Variety<\/a>\u00a0back in January.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWhen I write alone, I procrastinate. When I\u2019m procrastinating with Joachim, even if I haven\u2019t done anything, at least I got to spend a day with my friend,\u201d said Vogt, with Trier adding: \u201cEskil is my longest relationship outside of my parents. We don\u2019t need to be silly romantic about it, but we have to be honest: it\u2019s a real gift.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tPaul Thomas Anderson\u2019s hit \u201cOne Battle After Another<\/a>\u201d\u00a0tok home the Amanda For best foreign film.<\/p>\n

\n\tOn the acting front, Pia Tjelta scored her second Amanda \u2013 this time for her performance in \u201cDon\u2019t Call Me Mama.\u201d<\/a> Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas won for \u201cSentimental Value,\u201d while Anna Drakopoulou Sverrisd\u00f3ttir was named Newcomer of the Year for \u201cBrightly Shining.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe Battle of Oslo\u201d \u2013 last year\u2019s opening film at the\u00a0Norwegian International Film Festival Haugesund<\/a> \u2013 won the People\u2019s Amanda.<\/p>\n

\n\tIt depicts the sinking of German cruiser Bl\u00fccher, under the leadership of Colonel Birger Eriksen, and \u201cis one of the most famous events in our history. Some people are calling it the single most important event during the WWII in Norway,\u201d said director Daniel Fahre.<\/a><\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe kept it quite accurate, also because it\u2019s such a thrilling story. But we had to look for its emotional side, because there\u2019s no mention of that in military reports. I am sure Colonel Eriksen had doubts, that he was afraid. But nobody wrote about it. I wanted to follow the facts and see what was hiding behind them.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Amanda Committee\u2019s Honorary Award went to Per Christian Ellefsen, known for \u201cElling\u201d and called by the jurors \u201cone of Norway\u2019s most beloved actors.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe first film about Elling was released in 2001, meaning it celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, and Per Christian Ellefsen was nominated for an Amanda Award for the title role in the first film,\u201d they recalled, saying that \u201cfew characters in Norwegian cinema have been as beloved.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWhile he struggles through three successful films, Per Christian Ellefsen certainly masters the role of Elling to perfection,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n

\n\tFinally, the Amanda Committee\u2019s Golden Clapper went to casting directirs Mette Holme Nielsen and Jannecke Bervell for their contributions to Norwegian film over more than 30 years.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cCasting is one of the most crucial elements in film and TV production, yet it is also one of the most underrated. It is in the casting process that the script meets the actors, and this is where the foundation for credibility, chemistry, and cohesion is laid,\u201d argued the jury.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cA good casting can elevate an entire production, while poor casting can bring a film down. Casting also plays an important role in promoting diversity, by opening the doors to new voices, new expressions and a broader range of people on screen. It is therefore a profession that requires instinct, an understanding of people, experience and the ability to see potential where others may not.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tMette Holme Nielsen is known for \u201cKitchen Stories\u201d and \u201cUt\u00f8ya July 22,\u201d which earned her a nomination for the International Casting Director Award. Jannecke Bervell worked on \u201cElling,\u201d \u201cKon-Tiki\u201d or \u201cThe Quake.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
