Hamas is exploring potential alliances with figures and factions once considered to be on the opposite end of the Palestinian political spectrum, including former Fatah figure Mohammed Dahlan and the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, ahead of the Palestinian Legislative Council elections, the terror group and other factions confirmed.<\/p>\n
The election, set to be held on November 28, 2026, will be the first Palestinian legislative election in two decades, following Hamas<\/a>\u2019s takeover of the Gaza Strip a year after the previous election.<\/p>\n Dahlan met with Hamas chief Khalil Al Hayya in Egypt on Monday to discuss \u201cunity of the national position,\u201d the Democratic Reform Bloc, a breakaway faction of Fatah led by Dahlan, confirmed in a statement.<\/p>\n Imad Mohsen, spokesperson for the Democratic Reform Movement, said Dahlan and Hayya \u201cdiscussed in depth and with responsibility all issues concerning our Palestinian arena, foremost among them the efforts to protect our people and strengthen the national position\u2026 within the framework of the efforts of the leadership of the movement and the national forces to ensure the unity of the national position, and the developments in the negotiation process that led to the approval of the roadmap for implementing the second phase of the ceasefire agreement.\u201d<\/p>\n Dahlan rose to prominence in Palestinian politics as the first head of the Preventive Security Service. He oversaw the internal intelligence and paramilitary organization until he resigned in 2002 in protest of delayed political reforms. During this period, Dahlan established himself as a powerful security figure within the Palestinian Authority<\/a> and a prominent voice in internal political and security affairs.<\/p>\n
