Fred Vasseur has reflected on Ferrari’s strategy during the Dutch Grand Prix after Lewis Hamilton criticised the team’s decisions over the radio.<\/p>\n
Ferrari<\/a> claimed fourth and fifth with Hamilton<\/a> and Charles Leclerc<\/a> during Sunday’s 72-lap race in Zandvoort, with the pair just missing out on the final podium position as Mercedes’ George Russell resisted late pressure.<\/p>\n During the race, Hamilton became heated over the radio after being held up by Leclerc despite being on a fresher set of tyres and implementing an alternative strategy.<\/p>\n Leclerc stayed out an extra lap before Hamilton was released, prompting the seven-time World Champion to sarcastically state over the radio, “great waste of time there, guys”.<\/p>\n He also questioned if the team were using him “as a guinea pig”, as the Briton remained out on track on fading tyres and was passed by eventual race winner Lando Norris and Kimi Antonelli, only making a final pit stop under a late Virtual Safety Car.<\/p>\n After the race, Team Principal Vasseur stated that not telling Hamilton what the strategy plan had been was intentional in order to gain an advantage over rival teams.<\/p>\n “We didn’t want to tell him the strategy at this stage, because we didn’t want to disclose it to the competitors. We wanted to keep him on track until the end [before the late VSC]. I think it would have been the right call,” said Vasseur.<\/p>\n “Charles was supposed to pit, we extended one lap, and it was a kind of confusion, but I’m not worried about this.
