\n\tChilean filmmaker Patricio Valladares<\/a>, behind the 2023 found-footage horror pic \u201cInvoking Yell,\u201d is set to direct a fantasy-horror reimagining of Dante\u2019s \u201cInferno.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe Divine Comedy,\u201d slated to begin filming in Rome in September, is produced by Italian film company Anxur Films, in collaboration with Ireland\u2019s Skincrawl Studios, which is also handling international sales.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cYou\u2019ve likely come across the famous line from Dante Alighieri\u2019s masterpiece, \u2018Abandon all hope, ye who enter here,\u2019 that Stephen King<\/a> also borrowed for his novel \u2018The Stand<\/a>,\u2019\u201d reads the logline. The film promises to take audiences through the gates of Hell that bear the infamous inscription.<\/p>\n

\n\tValladares\u2019 adaptation follows Dante, a grieving writer, and Virgil, a former priest, as they descend into the terrifying realm of the dead in search of Dante\u2019s wife Beatrice.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tAs they go through a series of terrifying circles inhabited by the dead and the damned, Dante and Virgil encounter lost souls trapped within eternal punishments shaped by their deepest fears, desires and regrets.<\/p>\n

\n\tPursued by monstrous entities and confronted by manifestations of human suffering, Dante and Virgil will eventually come face to face with the Devil himself.<\/p>\n

\n\tStarring Christopher Rygh (\u201cVikings: Valhalla\u201d), Matthew Metcalfe, Tilda Metsola and Fadhillah Othman, \u201cThe Divine Comedy,\u201d Valladares warns, \u201cis set to push the limits of pain and physical torture to levels only seen in Barker\u2019s \u2018Hellraiser\u2019 or Xavier Gens\u2019 \u2018Frontier(s).\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWhat drew me to \u2018The Divine Comedy\u2019 was the opportunity to create visions of hell that feel physical and painful,\u201d he tells Variety. \u201cBut at its core, it\u2019s a very human story about grief, guilt and how far you\u2019re willing to go for love when you have nothing left to lose. The concept itself generates so much atmosphere, tension and real horror.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tFilming begins on Sept. 7 in Rome.<\/p>\n

\n\tAhead of that, Valladares will be celebrating the Aug. 28 world premiere of his new film, \u201cInvoking Scream,\u201d the sequel to \u201cInvoking Yell,\u201d at FrightFest <\/a>in London.<\/p>\n

\n\tExploring the dark intersections of the supernatural and extreme music, the centers on a trio of metalheads who unwittingly unleash a dark force after they uncover a buried box containing a VHS tape and a mysterious book of witchcraft at the gravesite of Invoking Yell lead singer Andrea Fernandez. \u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cInvoking Scream\u201d stars Mar\u00eda Jes\u00fas Marcone, Luna Mart\u00ednez, Teresita Rios and Mat\u00edas L\u00f3pez.<\/p>\n
