The second death occurred in August, it said.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The health authority said a total of six workers had been infected with malaria tropica \u2013 the most dangerous form of the disease \u2013 at work. The other four people infected are now recovering well and have all been treated, the authority said.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">In mid-July, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) had initially confirmed an outbreak of four malaria cases among airport workers.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cThe individuals affected fell ill between July 4 and 6, 2026,\u201d the RKI wrote in its Epidemiological Bulletin. \u201cIt is assumed that the infection was transmitted by an infected Anopheles mosquito imported by aircraft.\u201d<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The Anopheles mosquito is also known as the nail or marsh mosquito.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"People walk through the departure hall at Frankfurt Airport in February.
