\n\tRidley Scott<\/a> does not seem to be thinking of retiring anytime soon. Not only does the director, 88, have Jacob Elordi starrer \u201cThe Dog Stars\u201d opening Friday, he\u2019s planning to put his own stamp on \u201cTreasure Island\u201d next with Hugh Jackman. And at some point after that, he\u2019s planning a third \u201cAlien<\/a>\u201d prequel.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe next installment in the long-running franchise will center on the \u201cAlien: Covenant<\/a>\u201d character David (Michael Fassbender), creating a \u201cbrave new world for himself,\u201d the director said in an interview in the L.A. Times <\/a>Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe David character is a malfunctioning AI android who was a maintenance crew member on the Prometheus. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cAIs can go off,\u201d Scott said in the interview. \u201cAnd if they do, it\u2019s like a bomb.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAlthough Scott has long been making films about the ramifications of artificial intelligence and robots, from \u201cAlien\u201d to \u201cBlade Runner,\u201d he said that up to now he hasn\u2019t found the need to use AI in making his films. \u201cI can compete with an AI without any problem making images. But it\u2019s coming, inevitably,\u201d he told the L.A. Times.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe uneasy question is: Can the AI only be as good as the information fed into it?\u201d Scott said in the interview. \u201cIf I say \u2018Here\u2019s a blank canvas, write me such and such,\u2019 would that just be a melange of millions of other scripts? Probably. But the danger is it\u2019ll pass that point and become smarter than we are.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAfter being nominated for best director three times and sharing a best picture nomination for \u201cThe Martian,\u201d Scott will receive an honorary Oscar<\/a> at the Governor\u2019s Awards in November, the same month he starts shooting \u201cTreasure Island.\u201d <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Ridley Scott does not seem to be thinking of retiring anytime soon.
