Iranian attacks<\/a> on US intelligence posts and hardware during the course of the recent war caused billions of dollars of damage, NBC reported on Wednesday citing four people with knowledge of the matter.<\/p>\n

Missile attacks and drone strikes on US assets in the Middle East has forced the US Congress to allocate funding towards repairs, the report cited two of the sources as saying.<\/p>\n

Further, some of the sites and equipment targeted by Iran are shared with the US military, the sources said, adding that this war signifies an unprecedented threat to the CIA and other US intelligence agencies.<\/a><\/p>\n

Some of the intelligence-linked sites hit throughout the war include a Riyadh CIA station, a site in eastern Iraq, and other radar and surveillance equipment throughout the region, NBC reported citing US and Gulf officials familiar with the matter.<\/p>\n

These strikes raised questions within the US military and intelligence community about the country’s ability to defend its assets, the report added.<\/p>\n

The CIA maintains dozens of bases throughout the Middle East, the report said, including so-called “stations” at embassies.<\/p>\n

The CIA, along with the State Department and the White House did not respond to the network’s request for comment.<\/p>\n

Iran has attacked US allies in the Gulf region with thousands of drones and missiles<\/a> since the start of the war in late February, targeting mainly US bases and forces.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In the first days of Operation Epic Fury, Iran targeted multiple US air defense battery radars, satellite imagery and photos spread online showed.<\/p>\n

This footage showed a destroyed AN\/TPY-2 radar system in Jordan, a destroyed AN\/FPS-12 phased array radar in Qatar, as well as damaged systems in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n

In July, the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) published a report estimating that between February and July about 65% of Patriot interceptors had been expended and that the number of THAAD ballistic missile interceptors in US stockpiles was at least 38% lower than at the start of the war.<\/p>\n

Patriots<\/a> and THAADs are systems that detect and destroy incoming missiles and are among the most effective in the country’s arsenal.<\/p>\n
