Frattare)<\/p>\n<p id=\"elk-f6c33cda-a171-11f1-ae84-6b906c3cbf30\">A trio of NASA space telescopes teamed up to capture a gorgeous new look at the glowing spiral galaxy NGC 4258 and its two anomalous extra arms.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-8d5603dc-a17a-11f1-ac8b-4592e7a69c34\"\/>What is it? <\/p>\n<p id=\"elk-8d560454-a17a-11f1-bae1-a7417af6623d\">This image shows <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/messier-106-jwst-image\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/messier-106-jwst-image\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-article-category=\"astronomy\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/messier-106-jwst-image\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NGC 4258<\/a>, also known as Messier 106, a spiral galaxy located some 24 million light-years away in the constellation <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/mighty-dog-constellations-of-the-spring-night-sky\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/mighty-dog-constellations-of-the-spring-night-sky\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-article-category=\"astronomy\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/mighty-dog-constellations-of-the-spring-night-sky\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Canes Venatici<\/a>, the &#8220;Hunting Dogs.&#8221; It is a fairly bright galaxy and can be viewed in the spring sky in the Northern Hemisphere with most telescopes.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-seasonal\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"elk-8d560454-a17a-11f1-bae1-a7417af6623d-1\">Messier 106 is noteworthy for having two &#8220;anomalous&#8221; extra arms, the long curved regions of bright gases, dust and young stars that are characteristic of all spiral galaxies. But while most spiral <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/15680-galaxies.html\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/15680-galaxies.html\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-article-category=\"astronomy\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/15680-galaxies.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">galaxies<\/a> have only a pair of arms, Messier 106 has two pairs. <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/mission\/hubble\/science\/explore-the-night-sky\/hubble-messier-catalog\/messier-106\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/mission\/hubble\/science\/explore-the-night-sky\/hubble-messier-catalog\/messier-106\/\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-article-category=\"astronomy\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">According to NASA<\/a>, the extra set is composed of hot gases that are churned away from the galactic center by the supermassive <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/15421-black-holes-facts-formation-discovery-sdcmp.html\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/15421-black-holes-facts-formation-discovery-sdcmp.html\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-article-category=\"astronomy\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/15421-black-holes-facts-formation-discovery-sdcmp.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">black hole<\/a> at the heart of NGC 4258.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-8d5604c2-a17a-11f1-93ae-679e5e0f8b8e\"\/>Why is it incredible?<\/p>\n<p id=\"elk-8d560530-a17a-11f1-847b-6b7befb4235c\">This image shows off the incredible teamwork that NASA&#8217;s flagship orbital observatories can pull off.
