{"id":599107,"date":"2026-08-28T23:24:19","date_gmt":"2026-08-28T23:24:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/599107\/"},"modified":"2026-08-28T23:24:19","modified_gmt":"2026-08-28T23:24:19","slug":"essex-mental-health-trusts-leaders-need-to-improve-says-cqc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/599107\/","title":{"rendered":"Essex mental health trust&#8217;s leaders need to improve, says CQC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">A watchdog says leadership needs to improve at an NHS trust at the centre of an inquiry into the deaths of people under the care of mental health services.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">In March, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspected parts of the Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (EPUT).<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">In a report published on Thursday, Victoria Green, the CQC&#8217;s deputy director of mental health in the East of England, said there seemed to be a &#8220;disconnect between senior leaders and front-line service&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">EPUT, which provides community health, mental health, and learning disability services, said it was already making improvements.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The CQC&#8217;s latest findings come after former EPUT boss Paul Scott faced criticism for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/c80m593jp3no\" class=\"ssrcss-1e0jzsh-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">leaving his role while the trust is under scrutiny.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The Lampard Inquiry is examining the deaths of more than 2,000 people treated at NHS-run mental health units in Essex between 2000 and 2023.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">It is also looking into the failings of various health bodies, including EPUT.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Chaired by Baroness Lampard, it is the first public inquiry in the UK to focus on mental health deaths.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A watchdog says leadership needs to improve at an NHS trust at the centre of an inquiry into&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":599108,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[35],"tags":[163,85,46,522,523],"class_list":["post-599107","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-mental-health","tag-health","tag-il","tag-israel","tag-mental-health","tag-mentalhealth"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/599107","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=599107"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/599107\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/599108"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=599107"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=599107"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=599107"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
