Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem on Friday refused the
\nframework agreement and Lebanese direct negotiations with Israel, saying the
\ngroup would accept only the November 27, 2024 agreement reached under UN
\nSecurity Council Resolution 1701.<\/p>\n
Criticizing the Lebanese authorities’ direct talks with
\nIsrael, Qassem said the process had failed to produce either a ceasefire or an
\nIsraeli withdrawal. <\/p>\n
He called instead for the agreement to be cancelled before
\ngoing back to indirect negotiations. \u201cWashington
\nwas not neutral between Lebanon and Israel,\u201d he said, urging Beirut to seek
\nanother intermediary.<\/p>\n
Qassem described the current situation as \u201cIsraeli
\naggression,\u201d rather than a mutual war, adding that Israel had continued its
\nattacks despite Hezbollah\u2019s adherence to the agreement.<\/p>\n
On Hezbollah\u2019s weapons, he ruled out calls for the group to
\nsurrender its arms, arguing that Israel would continue to use the issue as a
\njustification for its military actions.<\/p>\n
The group also opposes proposed \u201cpilot areas\u201d and a
\n\u201cverification committee,\u201d and expressed hard refusal of any arrangements
\nresulting from them. <\/p>\n
Addressing the broader regional situation, Qassem described
\nit as a \u201chistoric restructuring\u201d of the balance of power. He accused the United
\nStates of seeking to expand its influence and create conditions for a \u201cGreater
\nIsrael,\u201d while saying Iran and resistance groups were confronting what he
\ncalled projects of fragmentation, occupation and foreign control.<\/p>\n
He also claimed that US and Israeli military action had
\nfailed to achieve its objectives despite heavy losses in Palestine, Lebanon,
\nIran, Yemen and Iraq.<\/p>\n
