Twin Engine<\/a> announced on Thursday that production on a sequel to\u00a0Nippon Sangoku The Three Nations of the Crimson Sun<\/a>,\u00a0the television anime<\/a> of Ikka Matsuki<\/a>‘s Nippon Sangoku<\/a> manga, has been green-lit. Twin Engine posted an announcement video for the sequel, featuring footage from the first anime, but did not reveal any further details about the sequel anime.<\/p>\n

Twin Engine, the anime’s producer, describes the first anime:<\/p>\n

In a near-future Japan where civilization has regressed due to nuclear war, natural disasters, and corrupt governance. The nation fractures into three, plunging into a new Three Kingdoms era as each vies for supremacy. Aoteru Misumi, once an obscure local bureaucrat, sets his sights on the reunification of Japan. The anime stars:<\/p>\n

Kazuaki Terasawa<\/a> (The Ancient Magus’ Bride<\/a> second season, Tatsuki Fujimoto 17-26<\/a> “Woke-Up-as-a-Girl Syndrome” episode) is directing the anime at Studio Kafka<\/a>, and Takahiko Abiru<\/a> (The Ancient Magus’ Bride two seasons animation director, Vinland Saga<\/a> two seasons character designer) is designing the characters and is also the chief animation director.<\/p>\n

Teruko Utsumi<\/a> (Salaryman’s Club<\/a>, Sarazanmai<\/a>, You and I Are Polar Opposites<\/a>) is in charge of series scripts, Seiki Tamura<\/a> (The Ancient Magus’ Bride seasons 2 & 3, Ascendance of a Bookworm<\/a>, K-ON!<\/a>) is the art director, and\u00a0Kevin Penkin<\/a>\u00a0(Made in Abyss<\/a>, The Apothecary Diaries<\/a>, Tower of God<\/a>) is composing the music.<\/p>\n

Tatsuya Kitani<\/a> performs the anime’s opening theme song “Hidane” (Flashpoint), and Leina<\/a> performs the ending theme song\u00a0“Chikai” (Oath).<\/p>\n

Amazon Prime Video<\/a> began streaming<\/a> the anime on April 5 in over 240 countries and territories. Amazon Prime Video is the exclusive distributor for the anime outside of Japan. The anime had a pre-release broadcast in Japan on the U-NEXT<\/a> channel on April 6 at 9:00 p.m. JST, and then aired on Tokyo MX<\/a>, BS NTV<\/a>, and other stations on April 6 at 24:00 JST (effectively April 7 at 12 midnight JST).<\/p>\n

Matsuki launched the manga on Shogakukan<\/a>‘s Manga ONE app and Ura Sunday<\/a> website in 2021. Shogakukan published the manga’s seventh compiled book volume on April 10.<\/p>\n

The manga was listed<\/a> in Da Vinci news magazine’s 23rd annual “Book of the Year,” and was nominated<\/a> in the 16th Manga Taisho awards in 2023. The manga was also listed<\/a> in the top 20 manga for male readers in the 2023 edition of Takarajimasha<\/a>‘s Kono Manga ga Sugoi! (This Manga Is Amazing!) guidebook.<\/p>\n
