{"id":607008,"date":"2026-09-05T19:58:09","date_gmt":"2026-09-05T19:58:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/607008\/"},"modified":"2026-09-05T19:58:09","modified_gmt":"2026-09-05T19:58:09","slug":"jewish-institutions-spend-record-1-billion-on-security-jfna-study-finds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/607008\/","title":{"rendered":"Jewish institutions spend record $1 billion on security, JFNA study finds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jewish communal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/diaspora\/antisemitism\/article-906945\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">security spending<\/a> has hit a record high, surpassing $1 billion a year ($1.015b.), data from the Jewish Federations of North America revealed ahead of the High Holidays.<\/p>\n<p>The new study finds that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/diaspora\/antisemitism\/article-906716\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">average spending<\/a> across over 4,500 Jewish communal institutions amounts to roughly $225,000 per institution. This represents a 33% increase compared to the previous estimate of $765 million in 2024. These institutions include Jewish community centers, synagogues, schools, summer camps, and other Jewish nonprofit institutions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">JFNA\u2019s analysis does not include privately owned businesses, such as over 1,600 kosher restaurants and some 500 kosher markets and grocery stores, along with shops selling Judaica and Jewish bookstores in Jewish neighborhoods across North America.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">This comes as leaders call for the urgent passage of the Jewish American Security Act that would fully fund the Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP) at $1b.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">\u201cThe fact that Jewish communal spending has shot up 33% is a measure of how much more dangerous life has become for Jewish Americans, and sadly we know that we need even more investment to protect ourselves against the rising level of threat,\u201d Eric Fingerhut, president and CEO of The Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA), said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">\u201cWe are grateful for the partnership of Congress and this administration, but the need has outpaced the resources,\u201d he added. \u201cPassing the Jewish American Security Act and fully funding the Nonprofit Security Grant Program at $1b. is the single most important step lawmakers can take to keep Jewish Americans and all faith communities safe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>By JFNA\u2019s estimates, the total spending currently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/diaspora\/antisemitism\/article-902292\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">devoted to security<\/a> would be enough to send 44,000 kids to Jewish day school, cover the costs of every child attending Jewish summer camp, or fund every Birthright trip for a decade.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">\u201cEvery dollar our community spends on guards and cameras is a dollar not spent on Jewish education, on caring for our elderly, on taking care of those in need,\u201d Fingerhut said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Jewish communal security spending has hit a record high, surpassing $1 billion a year ($1.015b.), data from the&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":607009,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[2],"tags":[111,1903,26170,85,46,80548,43,140,1032],"class_list":["post-607008","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-israel","tag-antisemitism","tag-diaspora","tag-high-holidays","tag-il","tag-israel","tag-jewish-federations-of-north-america","tag-news","tag-security","tag-united-states"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/607008","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=607008"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/607008\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/607009"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=607008"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=607008"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=607008"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
