\n\tIt\u2019s just a couple of days before Jeff Goldblum<\/a> is getting ready to head to London to host the Season 2 premiere of \u201cSNL U.K.\u201d on Sept. 12<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019m a big Anglophile,\u201d he tells me on a Zoom from Italy, where he and his wife Emilie are enjoying a summer vacation. \u201cI\u2019ve read all of P.G. Wodehouse. We recently filmed \u2018Wicked\u2019 there, and I did the last \u2018Jurassic\u2019 movie there. I\u2019ve spent a lot of time in London. I\u2019ve done a couple of things on the West End. I\u2019m a big fan. I\u2019m excited and humbled and thrilled to be part of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tGoldblum is a two-time host of \u201cSaturday Night Live\u201d in the U.S. in 1993 and 1997.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019ll get your blood going and put you on alert,\u201d he recalls. \u201cIt\u2019s a fun, exciting, creatively chaotic and delicious week. It seems they\u2019re following something of the same schedule this week. I kind of remember it in my bones. When you finally get yourself out there, you\u2019re trying to just do the assignment. It\u2019s a blast.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tJust three days after \u201cSNL,\u201d the Goldblums will be honored at Oceana\u2019s annual New York gala at the Rainbow Room at Rockefeller Center\u00a0on Sept. 15 for their work over the last almost 20 years championing the organization and its work to protect the world\u2019s oceans. Martha Stewart will be named this year\u2019s Ocean Champion. Sam Waterston, an Ocean Board member, will serve as master of ceremonies. The evening will mark Oceana\u2019s 25th anniversary.<\/p>\n

\n\tGoldblum was first introduced to Oceana through his manager Keith Addis, who is a longtime environmental activist. The Goldblums\u2019 love of the water even inspired their sons\u2019 names, Charlie Ocean, 11 and River Joe, 9.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cCharlie Ocean is so named apropos because he cannot stay out of that water, like just in and out, in and out, swimming all day long, body surfing,\u201d Emilie says.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe couple also loved the ocean when they were kids. Jeff and his family would travel from their Pittsburgh-area home to Atlantic City in the summer. \u201cI have a memory of my mother taking me into the ocean and holding me in her arms, cradling me in her arms and feeling for the first time waves,\u201d he says. \u201cI didn\u2019t know about waves. Like what\u2019s this movement in the water going up and down and up and down, bobbing up and down?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tEmilie, who grew up in Canada, spent time at the beach when she visited her grandparents in France. \u201cThere would be these little campgrounds, and we\u2019d always camp close to an ocean,\u201d she says. \u201cThat\u2019s where we\u2019d spend the whole day, and I would do gymnastics on the beach, tumbling and playing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tJeff joined Oceana in lobbying California lawmakers in Sacramento in support of SB 54, regulations that aim to decrease single-use packaging and plastic waste. The act was signed into law by Gov. Gavin Newsom in 2022. To date, Oceana\u2019s New York Gala has contributed $20 million to support policy victories throughout the world.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s magical,\u201d Jeff says of the world\u2019s oceans. \u201cIt\u2019s part of our paradise of a planet. And woe be us, and shame on us if we don\u2019t do everything to counteract the damage we\u2019ve already begun.\u201d<\/p>\n
