{"id":613355,"date":"2026-09-12T00:56:09","date_gmt":"2026-09-12T00:56:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/613355\/"},"modified":"2026-09-12T00:56:09","modified_gmt":"2026-09-12T00:56:09","slug":"anti-israel-protest-in-thailand-causes-chabad-to-cancel-rosh-hashanah-meal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/613355\/","title":{"rendered":"Anti-Israel protest in Thailand causes Chabad to cancel Rosh Hashanah meal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Rosh Hashanah meal planned for Friday evening at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/travel\/article-903857\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chabad House in Phuket<\/a> for hundreds of Israelis will not be held in its original format following a heated anti-Israel protest near the site.<\/p>\n<p>Protesters gathered in the area for several hours and chanted slogans, including \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/diaspora\/antisemitism\/article-908254\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Free Palestine<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The event was originally planned for around 1,000 participants at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/diaspora\/article-900852\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chabad House<\/a> and a nearby hotel and was expected to continue until midnight. Thai authorities approved the gathering with certain restrictions after a local group called \u201cSave Phuket\u201d petitioned to cancel the event over security concerns, but they rejected the request.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">The protest took place Friday, with Thai media reporting that more than 500 people marched from Patong Beach toward the Chabad House while carrying signs reading \u201cSAVE PHUKET NO ISRAEL.\u201d Local police were deployed to the area following the demonstration.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">The protest organizers later issued a more severe message that included antisemitic language: \u201cWe are monitoring the situation surrounding the Jewish New Year event in the Patong area. These Jews are staying inside their mansions. They will not go outside. Once the protest ends, they will return to their normal lives. It is like a situation where the embassy is temporarily closed and then reopened.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">The organizers attempted to justify their actions, or rather whitewash their antisemitism, by describing the protest as \u201can important step in protecting the traditions and customs of the Thai people from disturbances by foreigners.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Recent protests targeting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/israel-news\/article-908026\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Israelis in Thailand<\/a> have also included antisemitic messages.
