The price can change. The number of units available can change, even after an order is in. Whether Apple accepts the order at all can change. What is not addressed anywhere in Apple’s published terms is a buyer’s own ability to edit a colour, storage tier or carrier choice after checkout.

Pre-orders for iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max opened at 12:00 UTC on September 12. Image: Apple

That gap sits inside a legal document rather than a help article. Apple’s Sales and Refund Policies for the US store are the only place order mechanics for iPhone 18 Pro are written down at all, and they say far more about what Apple can do to an order than what a customer can do to one.

Key facts on changing an iPhone 18 Pro order
QuestionApple’s published answerCan Apple change the price after you order?Yes. Apple “reserves the right to change prices for products at the Apple Store at any time, and to correct inadvertent pricing errors.”Can Apple limit how many units are available, after the fact?Yes. Apple “reserves the right to change the number at any time, even after you place an order.”Does a confirmation email lock in the order? No. It does not “signify acceptance of your order or constitute confirmation of our offer to sell.”Can a buyer change colour, storage or carrier after checkout? Not addressed in Apple’s published termsCarrier choices at checkoutAT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, or “Connect on your own later”Does financing let you switch carrier later?ACMI and the Apple Upgrade lease both require an eligible carrier at checkout; changing it afterward is not addressed

Apple’s published terms do not address changing a colour choice after checkout. Image: Apple
The changes that belong to Apple, not you

Read together, Apple’s three published rights describe an order that stays provisional until Apple decides otherwise: on price, on quantity, and on whether the order happens at all. None of that is unusual for online retail, but Apple states it plainly on its Sales and Refund Policies page rather than leaving it implied, and it is worth knowing before treating a placed order as a finished transaction. If Apple corrects a pricing error on a Pro Max configuration midweek, or trims how many units of a colour are available, its own terms say that can happen to an order already sitting in the queue.

Don’t miss the best of The Mac Observer

Set us as a preferred source and our Apple reporting ranks higher in your Google Search results and Discover feed — one tap, no account changes.

Accessories are chosen at the same checkout as the phone, under the same unpublished change process. Image: Apple
The one choice that is hardest to undo

At checkout, Apple’s US buy page offers four connectivity paths for iPhone 18 Pro: AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, or “Connect on your own later,” the unlocked option. That choice also decides the price you see. Apple’s headline figure of $1,199 for the 6.3-inch 256GB model applies with a carrier selected at the time of purchase; the same configuration is $1,299 unlocked on Apple’s Store page. Apple’s own disclosure explains the mechanism, connectivity discounts are “available to customers who connect with select carriers at the time of purchase,” without Apple ever printing the $100 difference as a number.

Financing adds a wrinkle. Apple’s own footnote on Apple Card Monthly Installments says buyers must “select AT&T, T-Mobile, or Verizon as their carrier when they check out,” and that the resulting iPhone “is always unlocked, so they can switch carriers at any time, subject to their carrier’s terms.” The Apple Upgrade lease carries the same requirement to select an eligible carrier at checkout. Whether the carrier chosen at the moment of ordering can later be swapped for a different one, or dropped for the unlocked path, before the phone ships, is not stated anywhere in Apple’s published terms.

What gets described online is not what Apple documents

Instructions about configuring a bag ahead of time and simply confirming it once pre-orders open circulate widely on Apple’s own Community discussion boards. That is user-generated content, not something Apple itself has published, and it should be read as unverified rather than as policy. Apple’s Store app is marketed around personalised recommendations, model comparison, a saved-items feature and order tracking, but its most recent changelog entry at the time pre-orders opened described only general performance improvements, with nothing iPhone-18-Pro-specific and nothing about editing an order after submission.

What Apple has not said
No stated deadline for changing a colour, storage tier or carrier before the order ships. No per-customer order quantity limit specific to iPhone 18 Pro.No statement of when a card is authorised versus charged for a pre-order.No order-edit tool named on apple.com or in the Apple Store app’s own release notes.

Pre-orders opened at 5 a.m. PT, which is 12:00 UTC, on Saturday, September 12, and the first deliveries are dated Friday, September 18. Until Apple publishes something more specific about editing a submitted order, the safest reading of its own terms is that the order you place is the one you should be prepared to receive.

Apple’s published sales terms describe exactly one set of things that can change about an iPhone 18 Pro…

[6
54112,112917,85,35855,46,13736,125
post-613989","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-technology","tag-apple-store","tag-buying-guide","tag-il","tag-iphone-18-pro","tag-israel","tag-pre-order","tag-technology
["GET
