A job ad requesting live-service experience has created uncertainty surrounding the new StarCraft game. Blizzard had categorized the open-world shooter as story-oriented. Some fans fear it will evolve into a microtransaction-heavy experience like the seasonal Destiny.<\/p>\n

The reveal of a StarCraft shooter<\/a> was one of the most notable surprises of BlizzCon 2026<\/a>. Blizzard describes the title as a narrative-driven open-world experience<\/a>. The focus on a storyline may suggest it isn\u2019t designed as a live-service game<\/a>. Even so, a new job listing hints at a seasonal structure similar to Destiny<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Who is Blizzard looking for?<\/p>\n

With an estimated release date in 2030, details of the new StarCraft<\/a> game are sparse. However, since the studio is still looking for help, a job ad could provide clues. The Blizzard career portal<\/a> is searching for a \u201cSoftware Engineer, Gameplay, NPC – StarCraft.\u201d <\/p>\n

Matching BlizzCon media reports, the site refers to the next chapter of the franchise as an \u201copen-world shooter.\u201d Yet the company prefers applicants to have \u201cExperience supporting live game development.\u201d It’s unclear whether a co-op or PvP mode awaits, but the posting also mentions \u201csocial\u201d and \u201cmultiplayer gameplay systems.\u201d<\/p>\n

To learn more about the project, the Korean Inven Global<\/a> spoke with lead developer Dan Hay. His comments cast doubt that the new StarCraft shooter will possess any live-service elements. When asked if the title would emulate looter shooters<\/a> or be single-player or multiplayer-oriented, Hay called it a \u201cbox product.\u201d <\/p>\n

Hay continued by explaining that the \u201cstory has a beginning, a middle, and an end.\u201d Players will be free to explore futuristic open-world environments, but the game offers a \u201cdefinitive ending.\u201d Hay then clarified it\u2019s not a \u201cseasonal game\u201d in its current state. <\/p>\n

Live model opposition<\/p>\n

Before BlizzCon, Bloomberg\u2019s Jason Schreier also pushed back against Destiny comparisons as discussed on a Ryan Gilliam podcast<\/a>. Given that World of Warcraft<\/a> and Diablo<\/a> are already live-service grind-fests, that comes as a relief to some Battle.net<\/a> users. Microtransactions<\/a> and a constant influx of new content could interrupt any cohesive narrative. <\/p>\n

Fearing delays, followers have criticized Blizzard for announcing the StarCraft shooter so far ahead of its release date. Its creators may have a defined vision for the next entry in the series regardless. Still, the job listing has raised speculation that the studio is keeping its options open.<\/p>\n
