LONDON: Israeli authorities said on Sunday they had detained a Palestinian man suspected of killing an Israeli settler in a shooting attack in the West Bank.<\/p>\n
Israeli soldiers \u201capprehended the terrorist who carried out the shooting attack,\u201d the military said, according to AFP. The army said a soldier had earlier shot and wounded the suspect at the scene.<\/p>\n
The Times of Israel, citing the military, reported that the suspect was later found at a hospital near Ramallah.<\/p>\n
Palestine\u2019s official WAFA News Agency reported that Israeli forces raided H-Clinic Specialized Hospital in Ramallah and detained an injured Palestinian receiving treatment there.<\/p>\n
Local sources told WAFA that troops fired tear gas near the hospital, causing several people to suffer from tear gas inhalation.<\/p>\n
The shooting occurred on Sunday morning near a natural spring in the West Bank, according to Israeli media reports.<\/p>\n
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu earlier said Israeli forces were pursuing the attacker.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur forces are pursuing the terrorist who carried out the deadly attack,\u201d Netanyahu said, according to AFP.<\/p>\n
A hospital confirmed the Israeli man\u2019s death, AFP reported. An organization representing Israeli settlements in the West Bank identified him as a settler.<\/p>\n
The reported killing came amid sustained Israeli military operations and settler violence across the West Bank following Hamas\u2019 Oct. 7, 2023, attack on southern Israel.<\/p>\n
Violence has continued through to 2026, with military raids, shootings, settler assaults, demolitions and movement restrictions contributing to Palestinian deaths, injuries and displacement.<\/p>\n
As of late August, 79 Palestinians, including 19 children, had been killed in the West Bank by Israeli forces or settlers since the beginning of 2026, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.<\/p>\n
About 1,870 Palestinians were injured during the same period.<\/p>\n
