As he explores deeper and deeper into the seemingly endless series of eerie rooms, his mental state deteriorates. Director Kane Parsons was just 20 years old during production, and he became the youngest director to top the box office, as the film went on to gross $400 million, heralding the arrival of Gen Z filmmakers alongside Curry Barker and Obsession, which came out around the same time. There are things about Backrooms that are far from perfect \u2014 if Renate Reinsve’s character is a native of San Jose, why does she have a Norwegian accent? \u2014 but it’s one of the most atmospheric films in recent memory.\u00a0-Liam Mathews\u00a0[Trailer<\/a>]<\/p>\n Supergirl<\/a><\/p>\n DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures<\/p>\n Milly Alcock<\/a> is the Girl of Steel \u2014 Superman’s cousin, Kara \u2014 in the second film in James Gunn’s DCU. Kara doesn’t take the responsibility that comes with her powers seriously, and when a girl named Ruthye (Eve Ridley) asks for her help getting justice against space pirate Krem of the Yellow Hills (Matthias Schoenarts), she turns her down. Then Krem poisons her dog Krypto, and she has to go on a John Wick mission to punish him and get the antidote, with Ruthye tagging along. She just wants to save Krypto and go home, but when she finds out that Krem and his crew are kidnapping young women and forcing them into slavery, she has to step up and fight \u2014 and in the process accept her place in the universe. The film was a box office flop, but it’s under two hours long, so it’s up to you to weigh the pros and cons of whether it’s something you’ll commit to watching. -Liam Mathews\u00a0[Trailer<\/a>]<\/p>\n Magnolia Pictures<\/p>\n Bob Odenkirk<\/a>‘s late-career pivot to becoming an action movie star continues with Normal, which he developed with John Wick screenwriter Derek Kolstad<\/a>. He plays Ulysses, the interim sheriff of the titular small town in Minnesota. He discovers that the town’s niceness is covering up a sinister conspiracy. As he unravels it, the bodies start piling up. This action comedy is directed by Ben Wheatley<\/a> and co-stars Lena Headey<\/a> and Henry Winkler<\/a>. -Liam Mathews [Trailer<\/a>]<\/p>\n Robert Pattinson and Zendaya, The Drama<\/p>\n A24<\/p>\n Robert Pattinson<\/a> and Zendaya<\/a> star in this provocative dark comedy from writer-director Kristoffer Borgli<\/a>. They play a couple soon to be wed whose relationship is rocked by the disclosure that she did something bad when she was a teenager \u2014 that’s not actually as bad as the thing her judgmental friend Rachel (Alana Haim<\/a>) did, which is one of the several topics for discussion the movie presents. It’s not the kind of movie that usually is a box office hit, but it was, because Zendaya is a genuine movie star. -Liam Mathews\u00a0[Trailer<\/a>]<\/p>\n Cooper Hoffman and David Jonsson, The Long Walk<\/p>\n Lionsgate<\/p>\n This adaptation of a Stephen King<\/a> novel is one of the best recent adaptations of the great writer’s work (it was originally published in 1979 under his Richard Bachman pseudonym). It’s a thriller set in a dystopian 1970s America where every year, fifty boys participate in a televised walking contest where they are killed if their pace drops below three miles an hour, with the last kid standing receiving a cash prize and the fulfillment of one wish. It’s like a stripped-down version of The Hunger Games \u2014 and not coincidentally, the film is directed by Francis Lawrence<\/a>, who has made the majority of the Hunger Games films. Cooper Hoffman<\/a> and David Jonsson<\/a> star, with Mark Hamill<\/a> in a sinister supporting performance as “The Major.” -Liam Mathews [Trailer<\/a>]<\/p>\n Zazie Beetz, They Will Kill You<\/p>\n Warner Bros. Pictures<\/p>\n Zazie Beetz<\/a> (Atlanta) stars in this “survive the night” horror comedy that’s a fun riff on a familiar formula. She plays a woman who takes a job as a maid at a New York City building where several women have disappeared and there’s something…\u00a0off…about the residents. But the thing is, she knows this, and she’s there to find her missing sister. And when the residents come to try to sacrifice her to Satan, she’s ready to fight back. The wild cast includes Myha’la<\/a>, Tom Felton<\/a>, Heather Graham<\/a>, and Patricia Arquette<\/a>. –\u00a0Liam Mathews\u00a0[Trailer<\/a>]<\/p>\n Christian Bale and Jessie Buckley, The Bride!<\/p>\n Niko Tavernise\/Warner Bros.<\/p>\n Jessie Buckley<\/a> and Christian Bale<\/a> star in this Jokerfied take on\u00a0Bride of Frankenstein from director Maggie Gyllenhaal<\/a>. “Frank” reanimates a dead woman who becomes his “Bride,” and together they go on a Bonnie and Clyde\u00a0-style crime spree \u2014 with feminist overtones. Critics weren’t really into how much the movie has going on, but it’s definitely a big swing that’s different from any other Frankenstein movie. -Liam Mathews [Trailer<\/a>]<\/p>\n Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie, Wuthering Heights<\/p>\n Warner Bros. Pictures<\/p>\n However you feel about her movies (Promising Young Woman, Saltburn), you have to admit that writer-director Emerald Fennell<\/a> is doing something and going for it. Wuthering Heights is no different. Margot Robbie<\/a> and Jacob Elordi<\/a> star in this provocative adaptation of Emily Bront\u00eb’s 1847 novel. It follows the volatile romance of Cathy Earnshaw (Robbie) and Heathcliff (Elordi), and makes some changes for style’s sake. It’s doing something \u2014and this time, it works. -Liam Mathews [Trailer<\/a>]<\/p>\n Timothee Chalamet, Marty Supreme<\/p>\n A24<\/p>\n Timothee Chalamet<\/a> stars in what is his career-defining role to this point as Mary Mauser, aka Marty Supreme, a (fictional) table tennis star in the 1950s. Marty wants to be the greatest table tennis player in the world and the face of the sport as it goes mainstream, and will do anything to achieve his goal. It’s a high-energy movie with a wild cast that includes Gwyneth Paltrow<\/a>, Odessa A’zion<\/a>, Kevin “Mr. Wonderful” O’Leary<\/a>, and even more surprises. -Liam Mathews [Trailer<\/a>]<\/p>\n A24<\/p>\n This Chinese animated film follows the adventures of the titular Ne Zha, a warrior prince from mythology. In this film, he battles Shen Gongbao with the help of his friend Ao Bing’s spirit \u2014 after Ao Bing’s body was destroyed, his spirit took up residence inside Ne Zha. The film set many impressive box office records, including becoming the highest-grossing film in a single country, the highest-grossing animated film, and highest-grossing non-English language film. -Liam Mathews [Trailer<\/a>]<\/p>\n Dwayne Johnson, The Smashing Machine<\/p>\n Eric Zachanowich\/A24<\/p>\n In this sports drama, Dwayne Johnson<\/a> \u2014 in prosthetic makeup that miraculously makes him look like a totally different person but somehow also still like himself \u2014 plays Mark Kerr, a pioneering UFC fighter who battled drug addiction. Emily Blunt<\/a> plays Dawn, his girlfriend, who stands by him as much as she can, but can only take so much. It’s an emotionally big movie with showstopping scenes for Johnson and Blunt and a gritty style courtesy of director Benny Safdie<\/a>. -Liam Mathews\u00a0[Trailer<\/a>]\u00a0<\/p>\n Rose Byrne, If I Had Legs I’d Kick You<\/p>\n Logan White\/A24<\/p>\n Rose Byrne<\/a> earned an Oscar nomination and a Golden Globe for her harrowing performance in this psychological drama with (extremely) dark comic elements. She plays Linda, a therapist whose sanity unravels as she cares for her daughter, who has a disorder that requires use of a feeding tube. The supporting cast includes A$AP Rocky<\/a>, Christian Slater<\/a>, and Conan O’Brien<\/a>. It’s an uncompromising look at the challenges of motherhood that’s not afraid to make audiences wince. -Liam Mathews\u00a0[Trailer<\/a>]<\/p>\n Leonardo DiCaprio and Benicio del Toro, One Battle After Another<\/p>\n Warner Bros. Pictures<\/p>\n The best action comedy ever made? Paul Thomas Anderson<\/a> writes and directs this ambitious satire about left-wing radicals, right-wing reactionaries, and the kid caught in the middle. Leonardo DiCaprio<\/a> stars as Bob Ferguson, a burnt-out former revolutionary who’s forced back into action to save his daughter, Willa (Chase Infiniti<\/a>, in a star-making performance). He’s going up against his old nemesis, psycho military man Col. Steven Lockjaw (Sean Penn<\/a>), as well as his own past. It’s a riotously funny, surprisingly moving, and beautifully made Best Picture contender. -Liam Mathews\u00a0[Trailer<\/a>]<\/p>\n Warner Bros. Pictures<\/p>\n Writer-director Zach Cregger<\/a>‘s second film (after his gobsmacking debut, Barbarian) established him as Hollywood’s latest must-watch horror filmmaker. His movies are events that aren’t to be missed. Weapons is a darkly funny nightmare packed with layered imagery that will leave you pondering over what it all means. It’s one of the most memorable movies of 2025, with a star-studded ensemble that includes Julia Garner<\/a>, Josh Brolin<\/a>, Benedict Wong<\/a>, and Amy Madigan<\/a>.\u00a0-Liam Mathews\u00a0[Trailer<\/a>]<\/p>\n Joaquin Phoenix and Pedro Pascal, Eddington<\/p>\n A24<\/p>\n Writer-director Ari Aster<\/a> (Midsommar) made a polarizing movie about a polarizing time. This anxiety-provoking, darkly comedic thriller is set in a small New Mexico town in May 2020, and follows the downward spiral of the town’s conservative sheriff (Joaquin Phoenix<\/a>) as the intensity of those first few months of Covid exacerbate his already unstable mental state. He’s too online, and it’s making him nuts. It’s the first major work of art to look back on that time and try to make sense of it from a few years distance, and what it finds is that everything stopped making sense. I can’t tell you what to think about Eddington; you’ll have to experience it and decide for yourself. (For what it’s worth, I think it’s one of the best and ballsiest movies of 2025.)\u00a0-Liam Mathews\u00a0[Trailer<\/a>]<\/p>\n HBO<\/p>\n The Alabama Solution is one of the best documentaries of the year, and one that’s sure to make noise when awards season rolls around. And let’s hope it makes enough noise to bring more attention to the corrupt correctional facility system in Alabama, as well as out-of-control prisons around the country. Directors Andrew Jarecki and Charlotte Kaufman get firsthand accounts of what happens inside an Alabama prison from inmates who are interviewed using illegal mobile phones that were smuggled in, revealing an institution built on corruption, brutality, and inhumane treatment of its inmates. It’s a shock to the system, but one that echoes through the rest of our government, making it relevant to every American concerned about a growing authoritarian regime.\u00a0-Tim Surette\u00a0[Trailer<\/a>]<\/p>\n Sally Hawkins, Bring Her Back<\/p>\n Ingvar Kenne<\/p>\n From Danny<\/a> and Michael Philippou<\/a>, directors of the very scary movie Talk to Me<\/a>, comes another very scary movie. Bring Her Back follows two orphaned step-siblings who are sent to live with Laura (Sally Hawkins<\/a>, in a ferociously demented performance), a strange woman who is trying to resurrect her dead daughter using an occult ritual she needs her new charges to complete. It’s a dark, grief-choked tale with excellent performances and some of the most disturbing imagery there’s ever been in an A24 horror movie, which is really saying something. -Liam Mathews\u00a0[Trailer<\/a>]<\/p>\n David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan, Superman<\/p>\n Warner Bros. Pictures<\/p>\n James Gunn<\/a>‘s Superman reboot came into theaters with a tall order in front of it. It had to establish a new tone and creative direction for the moribund DC Universe, it had to reintroduce a character who isn’t as creatively or commercially reliable as Batman, it had to succeed at the box office, and it had to be good. It succeeded in every way. David Corenswet<\/a> was born to play the Man of Steel, the supporting cast is genuinely funny (Edi Gathegi<\/a>‘s Mr. Terrific is the breakout character), and it presents a viable alternative to Marvel that isn’t grim n’ gritty like the prior incarnation of DC so often was. It feels good to watch. It’s a very impressive movie, and it makes it look easy. -Liam Mathews\u00a0[Trailer<\/a>]<\/p>\n Joseph Quinn and D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Warfare<\/p>\n A24<\/p>\n This Iraq War movie is something of a piece with Civil War. Co-directed by Civil War’s director Alex Garland<\/a> and military advisor Ray Mendoza<\/a>, Warfare approaches Civil War’s interest in war journalism from a different angle. Mendoza is a Navy SEAL veteran, and the film attempts to recreate as accurately as possible a firefight Mendoza’s platoon was involved in in Iraq in 2006. The script is drawn from testimonies of the people who were there, and the filmmaking tries to recreate the event as it happened. The result is a harrowing, immersive experience that’s unlike any other war movie ever made. -Liam Mathews\u00a0[Trailer<\/a>]<\/p>\n Tim Robinson and Paul Rudd, Friendship<\/p>\n A24<\/p>\n Tim Robinson<\/a>, one of contemporary comedy’s most unique and brilliant voices, stars in this deranged comedy that’s one of the funniest movies of the year. He plays a strange man named Craig, whose budding friendship with his cool new neighbor Austin (Paul Rudd<\/a>) curdles into self-destructive obsession after Austin decides to stop hanging out with him after Craig’s behavior gets too off-putting It takes the observational cringe comedy of Robinson’s sketch series\u00a0I Think You Should Leave<\/a> and molds it into a movie you will not forget anytime soon. There are lines in this movie you will be quoting and laughing about for months after, like you used to with Anchorman or Airplane or whatever. “I’ll leave you guys with this: we should still be in Afghanistan, and I don’t know why we pulled out the way we did…” -Liam Mathews\u00a0[Trailer<\/a>]<\/p>\n Michael B. Jordan, Sinners<\/p>\n Warner Bros. Pictures<\/p>\n Ryan Coogler<\/a>‘s blockbuster has everything: Irish step-dancing vampires! Two Michael B. Jordans<\/a>! Hailee Steinfeld<\/a> delivering outrageously dirty dialogue! Hallucinatory appearances by B-boys and funksters from the future! You’ll find all that and more in this ambitious and entertaining action-horror flick. Jordan plays Smoke and Stack, twin gangsters who open up a blues music venue in an old sawmill in 1932 Mississippi. They think their biggest adversary is going to be the local racists who don’t want to see Black men succeeding, but then the vampires show up. It’s a bloody, exciting survive-the-night action-horror flick peppered with thoughtful themes about Black ownership and American history. It’s likely to be the movie that people remember from 2025. -Liam Mathews\u00a0[Trailer<\/a>]<\/p>\n Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, Sebastian Hansen, and Jason Momoa, A Minecraft Movie<\/p>\n Warner Bros. Pictures<\/p>\n If you have kids between the ages of 5 and 25, you know all about Minecraft, the sandbox game where players build stuff out of blocks. The massively popular video game is now a massively popular movie that grossed nearly a billion dollars worldwide. The movie follows a group of people \u2014 played by Emma Myers<\/a>, Danielle Brooks<\/a>, Sebastian Hansen<\/a>, and Jason Momoa<\/a> \u2014 who get sucked through a portal and get trapped in Minecraft world. They meet Steve (Jack Black<\/a>), who’s been trapped there for decades but knows the way back, and go on an adventure to find their way home. It’s the second-biggest video game adaptation of all time, behind only The Super Mario Brothers Movie. -Liam Mathews [Trailer<\/a>]<\/p>\n Kevin Costner, Horizon: An American Saga – Part 1<\/p>\n Richard Foreman\/Warner Bros.<\/p>\n Kevin Costner<\/a> infamously left Yellowstone to focus on his planned four-part Western film series Horizon, which will be lucky to make it to two parts after Part 1 bombed at the box office in 2024. Part 2 is complete and sitting on a shelf, and maybe if enough people watch Part 1, the second chapter will finally see the light of day. The craziest part is that Horizon is actually fairly good, a sweeping, old-fashioned tale about how the West was won, with beautiful cinematography and an impressive ensemble cast led by Costner, Sienna Miller<\/a>, Sam Worthington<\/a>, and Abbey Lee<\/a>. -Liam Mathews\u00a0[Trailer<\/a>]<\/p>\n Anya Taylor-Joy, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga<\/p>\n Jasin Boland\/Warner Bros.<\/p>\n This prequel to action classic Mad Max: Fury Road<\/a>\u00a0is a pretty thrilling flick in its own right. Anya Taylor-Joy<\/a> takes over from Charlize Theron<\/a> as Furiosa, a post-apocalyptic big rig driver, for this origin story, as she seeks revenge on Dementus (Chris Hemsworth<\/a>), a large-nosed wasteland warlord who killed her family. It’s not as good as its predecessor, but Fury Road is one of the best action movies of all time, so almost nothing compares. Furiosa is still worth watching to experience the unique, highly specific world director George Miller<\/a> has built over the course of 45 years. -Liam Mathews\u00a0[Trailer<\/a>]<\/p>\n Adrien Brody, The Brutalist<\/p>\n A24<\/p>\n This powerful drama is epic in theme (the American Dream) and length (over three-and-a-half hours). Adrien Brody<\/a> stars as Laszlo Toth, a Hungarian Jewish architect who comes to America after World War II to try to build a better life for himself and his family and faces many troubles along the way. The novelistic film won three Academy Awards \u2014 Best Actor for Brody, Best Cinematography, and Best Original Score \u2014 and was nominated for 10 total, including Best Picture and Best Director for Brady Corbet<\/a>, who announces himself as a major filmmaker with this one. -Liam Mathews [Trailer<\/a>]<\/p>\n Niko Tavernise<\/p>\n Nicole Kidman<\/a> stars in this erotic thriller about a high-powered CEO who embarks on a kinky affair with a much younger man (Harris Dickinson<\/a>), risking it all for the feeling. The movie has one of the craziest, most memeworthy scenes of any movie from 2024, when Dickinson’s character, in a show of psychosexual dominance, orders Kidman’s character a glass of milk at a bar. You’ll have to see it to believe it. -Liam Mathews\u00a0[Trailer<\/a>]6<\/p>\n Janus Films<\/p>\n Bill Hader’s favorite movie of 2024<\/a>\u00a0has only gotten buzzier since it won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, but its limited theatrical release isn’t making it easy to watch for those of us late to the party. But now you can watch it how it was meant to be watched: with your cat in your lap (unless your local theater is really chill). The stunning Latvian film (the first Latvian film ever nominated for an Oscar) about a black cat who finds refuge on a boat with other animals after a flood destroys its home features no dialogue, letting the animation do the storytelling. And what a story it is. –\u00a0Tim Surette\u00a0[Trailer<\/a>]<\/p>\n Leslie Bibb, Nicholas Hoult, and J.K. Simmons, Juror #2<\/p>\n Claire Folger\/Warner Bros.<\/p>\n This legal thriller could end up being legendary filmmaker Clint Eastwood<\/a>‘s final film. Hopefully not, but it could be. Nicholas Hoult stars as a man facing a moral dilemma. He’s a juror on a murder trial, and he realizes that he accidentally killed the victim, thinking he hit a deer with his car. He has to decide what to do. Does he come clean and ruin the life of himself, his wife, and their unborn child? Or does he save his own skin and send an innocent man to jail? What would you do? That’s the question to ponder as you watch this entertaining courtroom drama. -Liam Mathews\u00a0[Trailer<\/a>]<\/p>\n Winona Ryder and Michael Keaton, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice<\/p>\n Warner Bros. Pictures<\/p>\n Michael Keaton<\/a> puts on his striped suit and teases his hair up like he stuck his finger in an electrical socket like he did in 1988 for this long-awaited sequel to Tim Burton<\/a>‘s classic supernatural comedy. This time around, Lydia (Winona Ryder<\/a>) reluctantly enlists Betelgeuse’s help in order to rescue her daughter Astrid (Jenna Ortega<\/a>) from being trapped in the Afterlife. It’s a fun update on the original. Hopefully it doesn’t take another 36 years for us to get Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, aka Threetlejuice.\u00a0-Liam Mathews\u00a0[Trailer<\/a>]<\/p>\n Warner Bros. Pictures<\/p>\n M. Night Shyamalan<\/a> isn’t Hollywood’s most consistent filmmaker, but he’s one of the most distinctive, and that’s arguably more important. His latest stars Josh Hartnett<\/a> as a dad who takes his daughter to a pop star’s arena concert. He’s also a serial killer, and he realizes the police know he’s there but not what he looks like. So he has to try to evade capture without his daughter finding out his secret. And it’s a Shyamalan movie, so you can be sure of two things: there will be twists, and it’s set in Philadelphia. -Liam Mathews\u00a0[Trailer<\/a>]<\/p>\n Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire<\/p>\n Warner Bros.<\/p>\n Hollywood keeps making these things, and I can’t get enough. Writer\/director Adam Wingard, who also handled 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong, has a great feel for this type of movie, injecting just enough plot to keep it coherent while still keeping the story from becoming overly complicated despite all the sci-fi elements (Marvel could use some filmmakers like that, to be honest). Thanks to Wingard’s deft hand, GxK isn’t the sort of movie where you have to slog through the talky bits to get to the spectacle \u2014 Godzilla x Kong is fun the whole way through, and that makes the out-of-control action sequences all the better. –\u00a0Phil Owen [Trailer<\/a>]<\/p>\n Zendaya and Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet, Dune 2<\/p>\n Warner Bros. Pictures<\/p>\n Respectfully,\u00a0Dune: Part One\u00a0was basically a really long, really beautiful trailer for\u00a0Dune: Part Two, which makes\u00a0Part Two\u00a0all the more thrilling. The\u00a0Denis Villeneuve<\/a>\u00a0-directed film finds Paul Atreides (Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet<\/a>) joining forces with the Fremen people (which includes his love interest,\u00a0Zendaya<\/a>‘s Chani, and his hype man,\u00a0Javier Bardem<\/a>‘s Stilgar), who live on the desert planet Arrakis, to wage war against the ruthless House Harkonnen (which includes\u00a0Stellan Skarsg\u00e5rd<\/a>‘s Baron and\u00a0Austin Butler<\/a>‘s Feyd-Rautha). –\u00a0Allison Picurro\u00a0[Trailer<\/a>]\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet, Wonka<\/p>\n Warner Bros. Pictures<\/p>\n Wonka, which is set during the very beginning of the chocolatier’s career, has a very different vibe from the fairly cynical original movie, adopting the more whimsical feel of director Paul King’s Paddington movies. That makes a lot of sense from a human nature standpoint \u2014 young folks tend to be more idealistic, and then they gradually gain cynicism as they get older and gain a greater appreciation for how terrible the world is. The movie is more of an empathetic look at their responses to it than it is about the actual tragedy, which is a refreshing change of pace from movies like this, which typically try to turn their characters into inspiring symbols of resilience. The Fallout is more interested in exploring how these kids get through the day after witnessing something unthinkable. With a cast that includes\u00a0Margot Robbie<\/a>,\u00a0Idris Elba<\/a>,\u00a0John Cena<\/a>,\u00a0Joel Kinnaman<\/a>, and\u00a0Viola Davis<\/a>\u00a0and over-the-top violence that fits the franchise, it’s a big improvement from the first Suicide Squad movie. Once you’re done watching it, you can check out Max’s spin-off series\u00a0Peacemaker, which centers on Cena’s character. –\u00a0Tim Surette\u00a0[Trailer<\/a>]\u00a0<\/p>\n Studio Ghibli<\/p>\n One of the coolest things about Max is that it’s home to the Studio Ghibli collection, putting Hayao Miyazaki’s greatest films in one place. Spirited Away is probably his most famous one, having won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. It came out in 2001, and all these years later, it remains a stunningly animated, wholly moving film, following a little girl named Chihiro whose parents are turned into pigs by a witch, forcing her to enter the witch’s treacherous, mysterious world as she tries to find a way to free her parents. It’s an absolutely magical experience, and the perfect gateway to Miyazaki’s work. –\u00a0Allison Picurro\u00a0[Trailer<\/a>]\u00a0<\/p>\n Viggo Mortensen,\u00a0Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers<\/p>\n Warner Bros.<\/p>\n If HBO Max only had the extended editions of the\u00a0Lord of the Rings trilogy I would still confidently call it the best streaming service out there. Luckily, it has a lot more stuff than that (clearly), but that doesn’t make it any less exciting that\u00a0LOTR fans can watch the full versions of Peter Jackson’s sprawling, visually stunning adventure series whenever we want. Even if you haven’t seen them, you’re probably familiar with the general plot: Frodo (Elijah Wood), a hobbit, goes on a quest to destroy the extraordinarily powerful One Ring and the dark lord who made it. Each extended installment clocks in at well over three hours, but HBO Max also has the regular theatrical cuts (which, admittedly, are all about three hours) if you’re more of a casual fan.
