Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of sabotaging efforts to reach a peace agreement in the Gaza Strip<\/a> in an interview with CNN\u2019s Christiane Amanpour on Saturday.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s very simply for one person\u2019s gain, … the (Israeli) prime minister and his far-right government,\u201d said Al Thani. \u201cThat\u2019s the whole thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Al Thani claimed that Israel has not fulfilled their commitment under the agreement reached in Sharm el-Sheikh in October 2025, in which Egypt mediated between Israeli and Hamas representatives to achieve a ceasefire and the release of Israeli hostages.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen every aspect of that move is ousted \u2026 they just deny it, and they move on in the opposite direction,\u201d Al Thani said. \u201cThey now occupy more than 70% of the strip<\/a>; instead of withdrawing, they are continuing the killing while this agreement called for a ceasefire, and the targeting of the population over there.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added that on average, 150 humanitarian trucks enter the strip daily<\/a>, despite claiming the agreement requires a minimum average of 600 per day.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have a long list of violations that, unfortunately, Netanyahu\u2019s government are committing, and basically we have seen that he is the biggest obstacle right now in progressing this peace plan, while everyone among the mediators is trying to work very hard to make sure this agreement is upheld,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Al Thani: ‘No single penny’ from Qatar has reached Hamas’s military wing<\/p>\n

Al Thani pushed back against Israeli allegations of Qatar having funneled money to Hamas\u2019s military wing<\/a>, saying that \u201cno single penny\u201d from the country reached the terror group\u2019s military wing \u201cintentionally or unintentionally.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve been very clear on this: There is no single penny that has flowed into Gaza without the full coordination and consent of the United Nations and the Israeli government,\u201d he said, noting that such consent spanned \u201cacross governments, not only Netanyahu; it was Netanyahu and other governments as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Al Thani, Qatari funds to Gaza were used exclusively to buy gas from Israel to supply Gazan power plants and to fund an Israeli-approved list of poverty-stricken Gazan families.<\/p>\n

Funds were also given to Gaza \u201cgovernment employees, civil employees, and government in Gaza, an approved list of those employees by the Israeli security \u2026 Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) or the Mossad or whatever \u2026 Those are the ones who are approving that. Besides this, nothing is going outside this category from our funding.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added that such funds were generally requested by Israel and \u201cnot initiated\u201d by Qatar.<\/p>\n

He said he is unaware of who wrote the reports regarding Qatari funding of Hamas\u2019s military wing, calling them a \u201cbaseless accusation that Qatar will never accept.\u201d<\/p>\n

Al Thani further claimed that \u201cevery time\u201d Qatar pushed for a long-term solution in Gaza, Israel would respond, \u201cwe have an election cycle, let\u2019s wait until after that,\u201d saying that this was the conversation from the time the funding started until September 2023, \u201cjust a month before October 7 started, when Israeli officials were in Doha pushing for another round of funding.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have been struck by Netanyahu\u2019s government,\u201d he noted. \u201cNetanyahu has sabotaged many attempts for us and the ceasefire before and the release of the hostages, and we have seen that he has been undermining our efforts every step we were moving forward.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also addressed Israel\u2019s \u201cQatargate\u201d scandal, calling it \u201cabsurd\u201d and saying that it would have been \u201cthe worst investment Qatar has ever made.\u201d<\/p>\n

Al Thani concluded the interview by turning to former prime minister Naftali Bennett\u2019s push to designate Qatar an enemy state, describing Bennett\u2019s former government as one that \u201cwas requesting and praising what Qatar was doing at that time.\u201d<\/p>\n

He accused Israeli politicians of \u201ctrying to pick a fight amongst themselves for political reasons \u2026 using Qatar as a scapegoat for this; this is totally unacceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n
