The devices stood out from your average fridges for their convenient automated, interactive features like cameras that detect your food and suggest recipes, or even order groceries from Instacart. However, a recent software update turned several people’s fridges into expensive, space-consuming kitchen decorations, rather than the revolutionary appliances they were intended to be. Such issues are glaring signs that smart refrigerators might not be worth it for you yet.

A Samsung SmartThings software update aged like the milk in some Bespoke users’ fridges when it reportedly shut their appliances down, leading to online complaints in September 2026. Per CNET, several Korean units abruptly lost power after the update was sent out. To make matters even worse, Samsung told users on its website that the update was still in testing, and that its public release was an accident. “Abnormal symptoms have been observed in the refrigerator power and screen of some customers,” a Google-translated message from a Samsung representative wrote on the company’s user forums. “We are currently taking emergency measures as a top priority through Samsung Electronics Service Centers.”

Aside from the immediate inconvenience of spoiled food, some users were also aggravated by Samsung’s apparent lack of availability sending out representatives to service the appliances. “Wait, if they say they can only fix it in October, what am I supposed to do in the meantime?” one forum member asked (again, translated from Korean). “Are they going to compensate me for everything inside the freezer?”

                Samsung’s refrigerators have proven problematic

Samsung’s AI refrigerator blunder places products like the Bespoke line among the most disappointing tech products of 2026 so far. The issue has also sparked debate among some Reddit users, who are mixed on whether automation or AI capabilities are necessary in basic household appliances. “Why would anyone buy a smart fridge?” one user wrote. “You plug it in, it needs to stay cold. No Internet access needed. Ice makers and water dispensers don’t need Internet access or remote control, either.” Others saw the issue as another reason appliance companies should scale back the amount of tech they add to their products. “The more I see technology getting integrated into products, the more convinced I am that less technology needs to be integrated into products,” another Redditor said.

Samsung refrigerators, in general, were previously recognized as some of the most complained-about products in the appliance industry. Per an October 2023 USA Today article, the public most frequently reported the company’s products to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission for issues like temperature problems and faulty ice machines. Their ongoing AI fridge problem indicates they’ve yet to break the cycle with defective devices. Perhaps before they unveil any other smart fridges or updates, Samsung will consider conjuring up a new recipe for its devices.

Samsung’s line of Bespoke Refrigerators arrived in 2024 with the promise that users…

[20
345,343,344,85,46,125
post-628898","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-artificial-intelligence","tag-ai","tag-artificial-intelligence","tag-artificialintelligence","tag-il","tag-israel","tag-technology
["GET
