More than 13,000 bottles of a prescription blood pressure medication are being recalled nationwide, for the second time, after the tablets failed a quality test, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.<\/p>\n

The recall covers chlorthalidone tablets, a medication used to treat high blood pressure and certain types of fluid retention. It was initially issued earlier this year<\/a> because the pills don’t dissolve properly. At that time, more than 11,400 bottles were involved.<\/p>\n

Inventia Healthcare Limited, an India-based drug manufacturer, voluntarily began the recall on Sept. 3. The FDA classified it as a Class II recall on Sept. 17.<\/p>\n

A Class II recall means use of the product could cause temporary or medically reversible health problems, although the likelihood of serious harm is considered remote, according to the FDA.<\/p>\n

The recall now includes 13,567 bottles, an FDA enforcement report said. The bottles are from Batch No. RISA24002, with an expiration date of April 2027.<\/p>\n

According to the FDA, the pills are prescription-only and were distributed nationwide.<\/p>\n

The Mayo Clinic<\/a> reports that chlorthalidone “is used alone or together with other medicines to treat high blood pressure (hypertension).” It can also be used to treat fluid retention.<\/p>\n

It’s not the only recent blood pressure medication recall.<\/p>\n

In October of 2025, more than half a million bottles of Prazosin Hydrochloride were recalled over concerns that they contained unsafe levels of a cancer-causing chemical, with the drugmaker telling patients who take the pills to contact their doctor or pharmacy if they have the product.<\/p>\n
