The world officially has one less celebrity beauty brand competing for our attention. The Outset \u2014 the \u201cclean\u201d skincare line launched by Scarlett Johansson and her business partner Kate Foster in 2022 \u2014 announced on Monday that it is closing up shop.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter an incredible journey, The Outset has made the decision to wind down operations,\u201d the message on the brand\u2019s website reads. \u201cWe\u2019re so grateful to everyone who welcomed us into their routines and supported us along the way.\u201d The statement added that online shopping on the website has ended, but existing orders will be processed. Back when the line was new, Johansson described The Outset\u2019s approach to clean beauty to The Cut<\/a> as, \u201cProducts that are transparent and can be used by as many people as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n

Of all the celebrity beauty brands out there, and there are many, The Outset was one that The Cut\u2019s editors surprisingly liked<\/a>. Alas, in a crowded market that also includes Selena Gomez\u2019s Rare Beauty, Hailey Bieber\u2019s Rhode, and Rihanna\u2019s Fenty, among approximately 9,000 others<\/a>, Johansson\u2019s line simply failed to stand out.<\/p>\n

Luckily, there is no shortage of business opportunities for entrepreneurial-minded celebrities. Perhaps Johansson will get into leggings<\/a>, cookbooks<\/a>, or baby wipes<\/a> next.<\/p>\n
