A British-Iranian man has been arrested in connection with an alleged security incident at an airbase in southwest England over the weekend.<\/p>\n
Counter Terrorism police in the UK said on Thursday that a \u201c27-year-old man, a dual UK\/Iranian national, was arrested\u201d in central London.<\/p>\n
He was detained \u201con suspicion of preparation of terrorist acts\u201d as part of an investigation into the events on Sunday near the Royal Air Force (RAF) Fairford.<\/p>\n
A second man, 26 \u2013 a UK national \u2013 was also \u201cquestioned under caution\u201d, the police statement added.<\/p>\n
The RAF base 160 kilometres (100 miles) west of London has been used by US bombers during decades of conflicts in the Middle East, including the US and Israel\u2019s war on Iran, which began in February.<\/p>\n
On Sunday, five men, all in their 20s and from London, were arrested on suspicion of explosives offences and \u201cterrorism\u201d over the incident at RAF Fairford. They have since been released on bail.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe investigation into circumstances surrounding events in Gloucestershire is hugely complex, and our specialist teams are interrogating multiple lines of enquiry,\u201d Vicki Evans, the senior national coordinator for Counter Terrorism Policing for the Metropolitan Police, said in a statement.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs we\u2019ve made clear, we\u2019re looking at all possible angles \u2013 including possible foreign state involvement.\u201d<\/p>\n
Police on Tuesday said they had found no explosives in the vehicles that were parked near the base on Sunday, but had retrieved a \u201cquantity of petrol\u201d.<\/p>\n
Earlier, UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham said there were \u201cstrong indications<\/a>\u201d that Iran played a role in an alleged security incident.<\/p>\n
