{"id":638965,"date":"2026-10-07T09:56:13","date_gmt":"2026-10-07T09:56:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/638965\/"},"modified":"2026-10-07T09:56:13","modified_gmt":"2026-10-07T09:56:13","slug":"why-netanyahu-still-resists-an-independent-probe-3-years-after-oct-7","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/638965\/","title":{"rendered":"Why Netanyahu still resists an independent probe 3 years after Oct. 7"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\">Three years after the Oct. 7 attacks, Israelis continue to call on Prime Minister <a href=\"https:\/\/www.al-monitor.com\/originals\/2026\/10\/how-netanyahu-capitalizing-mbz-meeting-flydubai-attack-gain-election-polls\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Benjamin Netanyahu<\/a> to establish a state commission of inquiry into the failures that enabled the attack and to take full personal responsibility for what happened.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Civil society groups are holding a series of events this week to protest what they describe as Netanyahu\u2019s refusal to take responsibility for the failures that enabled the attacks. The protests coincide with official ceremonies marking three years since the Hamas onslaught that killed 1,200 people in Israel \u2014mostly civilians\u2014and resulted in 250 taken hostage to Gaza.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Among them is the \u201cMarch of Shame,\u201d organized by The October Council and other civil society groups for Wednesday morning. The march will begin at Netanyahu\u2019s private residence in Caesarea and end at the Defense Ministry headquarters in Tel Aviv.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cIsraeli society can never start healing until all of the political echelon that ruled the country in the months before and on that day recognizes its responsibility and steps aside,\u201d Rafi Ben Shitrit, one of the founders of the October Council, told Al-Monitor.
