ChatGPT’s monthly active users<\/a> have skyrocketed since the AI bot was unveiled, with the latest figures hitting a truly impressive milestone.<\/p>\n

Researchers from OpenAI, Duke University, and Harvard University said in a paper published last month that ChatGPT’s<\/a> 700 million monthly users in July comprised around 10% of the world’s adult population.<\/p>\n

That monthly number is probably considerably higher now. OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman<\/a> said at the company’s annual DevDay event on Monday that the AI chatbot now boasts 800 million users per week.<\/p>\n

ChatGPT was processing more than 2.5 billion messages<\/a> a day as of July, the paper said, or around 29,000 queries per second.<\/p>\n

“For a new technology, this speed of global diffusion has no precedent,” the researchers wrote.<\/p>\n

ChatGPT’s rapid growth is a testament to its dominance in the AI and LLM space. Its weekly active user base has grown 700% since November 2023, when Altman said the platform had 100 million active users at the company’s first-ever developers’ conference.<\/p>\n

The platform’s user base also dwarfs that of other LLM chatbots<\/a>. xAI’s Grok, for instance, has 65 million active monthly users.
