Just days ahead of them releasing their highly anticipated new album, Fontaines D.C.<\/a> have dropped a cinematic single \u2018Where Is Gone?\u2019, which sees them join forces with Rosal\u00eda<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The song is the latest to be shared ahead of the band\u2019s upcoming fifth album \u2018Dopamine Chamber<\/a>\u2019, following on from lead single \u2018Marianne\u2019<\/a> and eerie track \u2018Tongue<\/a>\u2019. The album is the follow-up to 2024\u2019s acclaimed and Mercury<\/a>-nominated \u2018Romance<\/a>\u2019, and set for release on Friday (October 16).<\/p>\n

Ahead of the album arriving, the Dublin rock giants have also been previewing other new material at a recent show in Brooklyn<\/a> \u2013 including as-yet-unreleased songs \u2018Six Shot Morning\u2019<\/a> and \u2018Happy For You\u2019<\/a> \u2013 and also revealed the full LP tracklist<\/a>, which fans quickly noticed included a collaboration with Rosal\u00eda.<\/p>\n

Now, just days before the record drops, Fontaines have dropped the song with Rosal\u00eda as the third official single. \u2018Where Is Gone?\u2019 takes on a much more elegant, theatrical sound to the other previously-released singles, and sees her signature vocal style effortlessly intertwine with those of Grian Chatten<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe face you pull\/ With pervert lines\/ The perfect way\/ To say I love you\/ On a rainy day\/ In my head,\u201d Chatten sings in the melancholic, stripped back introduction, following an epic, cinematic introduction.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe picture frame\/ It shows your face\/ It\u2019s only worth what you pay\/ In this world\/ I could care less, so careless\/ But baby when you smile,\u201d Rosal\u00eda continues, before they come together in the sombre, heartfelt chorus. \u201cI remember when they held me up against the summertime\/ And the tears would fall\/ Baby if you try\/ There\u2019s no harm in saying\/ Leave it, let it die.\u201d<\/p>\n

This marks the band\u2019s first ever guest vocalist on a track, despite\u00a0Chatten long-harbouring a desire to work with Lana Del Rey<\/a>. It also comes as a poignant song for Carlos O\u2019Connell, who has recently been reconnecting with his Spanish heritage.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been a fan of Rosal\u00eda since her debut album, which was absolutely beautiful,\u201d he said. \u201cWhat really excited me was how she was keeping a Spanish tradition of music alive, which in a spiritual way felt akin to what we\u2019ve tried to do with Irish music. For someone with roots in both countries, it\u2019s been beautiful to see. She\u2019s an artist who\u2019s blown me away at every stage since.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ahead of the album release on Friday, Fontaines will be playing an intimate gig at London\u2019s Roundhouse on Thursday<\/a> (October 15) which will celebrate the record and raise money for mental health charity CALM<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The gig is a stark contrast to the huge shows the band have become accustomed to, and next summer, for instance, they will play some massive gigs in the UK and Ireland<\/a>, including two nights at Slane Castle<\/a> and a double-header at Manchester\u2019s Heaton Park<\/a>. Support on the UK stops comes from Little Simz<\/a> and Viagra Boys<\/a>, with Hayley Williams<\/a> opening in Ireland.<\/p>\n

They recently announced new concerts in Italy and Germany as part of their 2027 trek<\/a>, as well as dates in Japan, Australia and New Zealand, and the outdoor run follows their 2026 UK and European arena tour this autumn<\/a>, off the back of this summer\u2019s Reading & Leeds<\/a> headline slots. The follow-up to 2024\u2019s acclaimed and Mercury<\/a>-nominated \u2018Romance<\/a>\u2019 comes after Fontaines\u2019 recent contributions to the Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man soundtrack<\/a> and the War Child \u2018Help(2)\u2019 album<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It has been given a five-star review from NME<\/a>, which praised it as a \u201cdark but exhilarating reflection of end times\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you were expecting a pop banger via the Rosal\u00eda collab \u2018Where Is Gone?\u2019, think again \u2013 it\u2019s a lovelorn Morricone meets Bond theme ballad that peacefully realises that sometimes \u2018there\u2019s no harm in saying leave it, let it die\u2019,\u201d the review read.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven \u2018Romance\u2019 had the daydream euphoria of \u2018Favourite\u2019, but there\u2019s no real light on here despite its Trojan Horse hooks. The album is all the richer for not having a Radio X banger shoehorned in. It just goes to show that you can fill out a stadium without shitting out a \u2018Sex On Fire\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n
