On Wednesday, 14 October 2026, Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem, received:<\/p>\n

The Hegumen of the Monastery of Saint George in Lydda, Archimandrite Dionysios.
\nThe Hegumen of the Holy Monastery of Hozeva, Archimandrite Constantine.
\nThe Hegumen of the Holy Monastery of Saint Simeon in Katamon, Archimandrite Parthenios.<\/p>\n

The aforementioned Fathers discussed matters concerning their respective monasteries with Patriarch Theophilos III.<\/p>\n

HPatriarch Theophilos III subsequently received Mr Marios Stavrou, Representative of the Republic of Cyprus to Ramallah. During this meeting, matters concerning Christians in the Middle East were discussed, and the excellent cooperation between the two Churches, Cyprus and Jerusalem, was emphasised.<\/p>\n

Patriarch Theophilos III referred to the multifaceted role of the Patriarchate in the Holy Land, encompassing peacebuilding, education and culture. He presented Mr Stavrou with souvenirs from Jerusalem and his blessing for a pilgrimage to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, 2\/15 October 2026, Patriarch of Jerusalem Theophilos III received a group of fifty educators representing all religious denominations in northern Israel, led by His Eminence Metropolitan Makarios of Acre\u2013Ptolemais, accompanied by Fr Theodosios Machoulis, Parish Priest of Kafr Yasif, and Fr George Mansour.<\/p>\n

They presented Patriarch Theophilos III with an account of their educational work and the challenges they faced in carrying it out.<\/p>\n

Patriarch Theophilos III welcomed the distinguished representatives of the educational community to the See of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem, expressing His appreciation for their dedication to the education and moral formation of the younger generation.<\/p>\n

He emphasised that education extends beyond the transmission of knowledge, serving as a means of cultivating the human person, fostering the pursuit of truth and nurturing the freedom that comes through understanding. In this regard, he highlighted the enduring responsibility of teachers to guide their pupils not only towards knowledge, but also towards wisdom, sound judgement and moral integrity.<\/p>\n

Referring to the challenges of the modern age, Patriarch Theophilos III observed that technological advancement and the increasing availability of information cannot, in themselves, replace the personal relationship between teacher and pupil, the example set by the educator, or the cultivation of discernment and character. Authentic education, He noted, must unite intellectual development with moral responsibility, respect for others and a deeper appreciation of our common humanity.<\/p>\n

Drawing upon the wisdom of the Greek philosophical tradition and the teaching of the Holy Scriptures,Patriarch Theophilos III underlined the enduring significance of the written and spoken word in preserving truth, transmitting the heritage of previous generations and shaping the spiritual life of society. He also acknowledged the perseverance and often unseen sacrifices of educators, whose work bears fruit not only in their pupils\u2019 learning, but also in their character and future contributions to the world.<\/p>\n

Concluding, Patriarch Theophilos III expressed his paternal gratitude for the educators\u2019 valuable service and prayed that God would strengthen them in their vocation, enlighten their minds and hearts, and bless the fruits of their labours. He affirmed that the true purpose of education lies not simply in the acquisition of knowledge, but in its fulfilment through wisdom, human communion and the pursuit of truth.<\/p>\n

Patriarch Theophilos III subsequently received and welcomed Fr Gregory and Fr Elias, who were visiting from the Holy Metropolis of Kassandreia of the Church of Greece, and imparted to them his paternal and patriarchal blessings.<\/p>\n
