Jake Bauers started the Brewers\u2019 comeback with a two-run double and Garrett Mitchell hit a go-ahead home run to deliver a 6-4 victory \u2060over the Los Angeles Dodgers<\/a> on Thursday and send Milwaukee to their first World Series appearance in 44 years.<\/p>\n

Bauers added a bases-loaded walk to tie the game in the \u2060fifth inning as the Brewers \u2060rallied from an early \u200bfour-run deficit to sweep the National League Championship Series in four games. The dominating performance came after Milwaukee were swept out of the NLCS by Los Angeles \u2060last season.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe got down early tonight and we were like, it\u2019s going to be a great story,\u201d Brewers veteran Christian Yelich said. \u201cWe\u2019re going to come back and win this. Like, stay together, start chipping away. And that\u2019s exactly what they did.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts had few complaints at the loss, saying the 2024 and 2025 MLB<\/a> champions had been comprehensively outplayed.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the end of the day, we got beat,\u201d Roberts said. \u201cWe got outplayed in all facets. Those guys played flawless. Defensively they pitched better than we did, they hit better than we did, they slugged more than we did. You\u2019ve got to sometimes just tip your cap.<\/p>\n

\u201cI personally told our guys that there\u2019s no apologies, there\u2019s no sorries. We gave it everything we had, and it wasn\u2019t good enough. That\u2019s part of life.\u201d<\/p>\n

Catcher William Contreras guided the Brewers\u2019 pitching staff in a bullpen game, and four pitchers held the Dodgers scoreless over the final seven innings. JoJo Romero tossed two innings, and Aaron \u2060Ashby handled the final three frames for his second save of the postseason.<\/p>\n

\u201cPlaying with that chip on our shoulder,\u201d Ashby said. \u201cYou don\u2019t ever know what to expect going into a series like that last year. You don\u2019t know how bad it can be, and then it was as bad as it was. And we came out and we survived, and we came back this year, and those guys played their tails off.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Brewers will open the World Series at \u200bhome on 23 October against the winner of the \u200cAmerican League Championship Series between \u200cthe Cleveland Guardians and Tampa Bay Rays. The Guardians hold a 2-1 lead<\/a> after winning 3-2 on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Milwaukee made \u200ctheir only previous World Series<\/a> appearance as an AL team in 1982, falling in seven games to the St Louis Cardinals.<\/p>\n

Shohei Ohtani hit a three-run homer in his return to the leadoff spot but also struck out three times while playing with knee and biceps discomfort that will be addressed in the offseason.<\/p>\n

Dodgers starter Tyler Glasnow gave up four runs on three hits and two walks over 4.1 innings. He struck out six. Tanner \u200cScott gave up Mitchell\u2019s go-ahead home run in the sixth inning.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve always dreamt of moments like these as a kid,\u201d Mitchell said.<\/p>\n

The Dodgers appeared to be all business in the second inning when Andy Pages delivered a one-out RBI single and Ohtani added \u200ba towering three-run blast with two outs for a 4-0 advantage.<\/p>\n

Bauers continued his impressive series in the fourth inning with a two-run ground-rule double to cut the Milwaukee deficit in half.<\/p>\n

David Hamilton cut the Dodgers\u2019 lead further when he made it 4-3 in the fifth inning with an RBI single, ending Glasnow\u2019s night. Dodgers reliever Evan Phillips subsequently loaded the bases with two outs on a pair \u2060of walks. Alex Vesia replaced Phillips and walked Bauers on four pitches to tie the \u200bgame.<\/p>\n

Milwaukee went up for good in \u200bthe sixth at 5-4 when Mitchell, \u200ba Southern California native and UCLA alumnus, greeted Scott with a leadoff home run.<\/p>\n

The Dodgers wasted \u200ba one-out double from \u200cKyle Tucker in the \u200bsixth inning and a leadoff \u200bdouble from Pages in the seventh. Another double combined with an error in the eighth put Will Smith on third base as the tying run with one out. Ashby then retired Tucker on a shallow fly ball and struck out Teoscar Hernandez to end the threat.<\/p>\n

Hamilton sealed the victory with a two-out home run in the ninth inning against Edwin Diaz.
