We must reduce bureaucracy and implement the large defense budget approved by the government,” an officer familiar with the procurement deals said.

“The damage is already being felt. We can see it in operational capability gaps, not only in the Air Force,” he added.

Among the critical purchases currently under consideration are the seventh and eighth aerial refueling aircraft. After years of delays and foot-dragging, a decision was made to upgrade the Air Force’s refueling fleet through the purchase of Boeing KC-46 Pegasus aircraft, which would extend the range and operational capabilities of Israeli fighter jets.

The American refueling aircraft that served as flying gas stations during Operation Roaring Lion demonstrated beyond any doubt the need for Israeli-owned aerial refueling aircraft in a future independent IDF campaign against Iran.

A Boeing KC-46A Pegasus sits on the tarmac at Boeing facilities at Boeing Field in this aerial photo in Seattle, Washington, U.S. (credit: REUTERS/LINDSEY WASSON)

The KC-46 is intended to replace Israel’s aging Re’em tanker fleet, which has undergone several upgrades over the years. The new aircraft can refuel multiple fighter jets in midair at once and is equipped with advanced communications and defense systems.

Air Force officers emphasized that if the deal is signed in the coming months, the aircraft could be delivered as early as 2030. Any further delay in the procurement process would push back their arrival by years.

IDF wants to replace Yasur helicopters

Another issue under consideration is the purchase of helicopters numbered 12 through 18 in the Pereh helicopter program, which are intended to replace the Air Force‘s aging Yasur helicopters. The new helicopters are expected to extend the IDF’s operational range and increase its capacity to transport combat troops and military equipment.

Senior defense industry officials have also warned of shortages of munitions and missiles. They stressed that procurement agreements must be signed to expand production lines in Israel and accelerate manufacturing.

Senior IDF officials have similarly warned of shortages of advanced munitions for the Navy and Air Force, which are preparing around the clock for a potential multi-front conflict.

Senior Ground Forces officials have also warned that the IDF still needs to replenish its stocks of tank ammunition and artillery munitions, including those used by its rocket forces.

In the area of ground mobility, Ground Forces Commander Maj. Gen. Nadav Lotan is working to accelerate procurement processes for various types of jeeps and trucks, as well as armored combat vehicles, including tanks, Eitan armored personnel carriers, and Namer armored personnel carriers.

“This is a force that has suffered tremendous wear and tear over the past three years, and we need not only vehicles but also spare parts, and quickly,” a senior Ground Forces officer said.

IDF Data Division looking for maintenance of old systems

Another critical capability gap, one that officials have been less willing to highlight, involves technology for the IDF Military Intelligence Directorate’s new Data Division, including the maintenance of older systems.

The IDF’s C4I and Cyber Defense Directorate, which has made significant advances in digital capabilities, also requires critical technology and infrastructure.

Advancing these projects will require larger budgets, which were approved by the IDF General Staff more than a year ago, partly to support the military’s artificial intelligence transformation.

Israeli Air Force officers welcomed progress in the Apache helicopter deal following a series of delays, but warned…

[2
28298,249381,25262,1031,85,87,46,4716,43,157283
post-651637","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-israel","tag-aircraft","tag-apache-helicopter","tag-helicopter","tag-idf","tag-il","tag-iran","tag-israel","tag-israeli-air-force","tag-news","tag-operation-roaring-lion
["GET
