Following our previous look at the opening for a Department Head of Architecture at Penn State University, we are using this week’s edition of our Job Highlights series to explore an open role on Archinect Jobs for a Belluschi Fellowship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

The role, based in Cambridge, MA, is designed to support “early-career architects and designers who are advancing emerging research agendas.” Among the qualifications required is a completed MArch degree or equivalent. Applications are due by December 15, 2026, with a start date in September 2027.

The opening at MIT offers us the opportunity to profile a fellowship aimed at nurturing research agendas among early-career designers. Fellows will join the faculty on a one-year appointment, with the possibility of extending to three years following a review in the spring of 2028.

“Fellows will be granted dedicated time and space to advance their proposed projects and are invited to share their results with the broader community through means such as exhibitions, publications, symposia, and/or public lectures,” MIT notes. “In addition to their research activities, fellows will actively engage with students by teaching a course load, balanced between fulfilling core program requirements and aligning with the fellow’s research interests.”

News of the fellowship comes months after the MIT Museum became the largest holder of the project archive of I. M. Pei from Pei Cobb Freed & Partners. Also in August, Dean Hashim Sarkis of the MIT School of Architecture was among the academic leaders to offer Archinect their views on the challenges and opportunities facing architectural education in 2026.
