Late-night hosts recapped a tough couple of days for the Oval Office, as Donald Trump<\/a> waved to an imaginary crowd and JD Vance<\/a> bombed softball interviews.<\/p>\n

Seth Meyers<\/p>\n

On Wednesday\u2019s Late Night, Seth Meyers<\/a> addressed the \u201creal issue\u201d from the midterms campaign trail that could no longer be ignored: \u201cDonald Trump might no longer be able to tell the difference between what is real and what is fake, be it polls or anything else,\u201d he said, \u201cas evidenced by this video taken Monday, where he seems to be waving at someone before boarding Marine One, only for the camera to zoom out and reveal that no one was there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Indeed, Meyers showed footage of Trump waving to no one, as if a crowd was there. \u201cWhen the helicopter pilot saw that, he probably wanted to call in a new flight plan,\u201d he joked. \u201c\u2018Hey. Yeah, this is Marine One. We\u2019re gonna scrap Kansas and head straight for the Whispering Pines Retirement Home.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cTrump loves going to rallies,\u201d Meyers later added. \u201cOne, because unlike on the helipad, he\u2019s not the only one who can see the people. And two, he gets to talk uninterrupted. And he\u2019s landed on an interesting way to describe his performances at those rallies.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump described his own rallies as \u201ctwo hours\u201d of \u201cranting, raving\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know, you don\u2019t have to go for two hours,\u201d Meyers responded. \u201cThey\u2019re rallies. They\u2019re not feats of endurance. You\u2019re the only one who wants to treat these things like dance marathons from the 1920s.\u201d<\/p>\n

In other news, JD Vance, attempted during a town hall to blame high gas prices not on Trump\u2019s war in Iran, but on Joe Biden, for allegedly taking US oil refining capacity offline during his administration.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou guys have to stop talking about Joe Biden,\u201d Meyers responded. \u201cMost people don\u2019t even remember that he was president. Biden probably doesn\u2019t even remember that he was president.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is such a shameless lie,\u201d Meyers added. \u201cYou want us to believe that a spike in gas prices that started in March of 2026 was because of a drop in refining capacity under Joe Biden, whose presidency ended in January 2025, and not because of the Iran war that Donald Trump started in February 2026. That\u2019s like walking out of a bathroom and saying: \u2018Hey everyone, I think someone clogged the toilet 14 months ago.\u201d<\/p>\n

It doesn\u2019t appear that voters are buying it, as the vice-president\u2019s approval ratings have hit rock-bottom; he\u2019s now the least popular Republican vice-president at this point in his term since modern polling. \u201cOh my god, JD Vance is less popular than Mike Pence,\u201d Meyers laughed. \u201cAnd don\u2019t forget, Republicans tried to kill that guy.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt doesn\u2019t surprise me that Vance is so unpopular,\u201d Meyers added. \u201cHe\u2019s got the integrity of a used-car salesman and the charisma of a wet ham.\u201d<\/p>\n

And on the Daily Show, Ronny Chieng also checked in with Trump\u2019s PR-challenged vice-president. Vance \u201cis probably going to run for president in 2028, assuming AI doesn\u2019t kill us all next year\u201d, the host explained. \u201cWhich is probably why he\u2019s been doing softball interviews that are impossible to screw up \u2013 unless you\u2019re JD Vance.\u201d<\/p>\n

During an interview onboard Air Force Two, Vance was asked by a reporter: \u201cWhat are you good at in politics?\u201d He still dodged the question, instead going into a tangent about loving life as a senator, forcing the journalist to cut him off with: \u201cSorry to interrupt, but tell me what you\u2019re good at.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHow is that a gotcha question?\u201d Chieng said. \u201cJD, tell us one thing you don\u2019t suck at! \u2018Uhh, can I phone a friend? Oh wait, I don\u2019t have any.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cHe does have a sense of humor, though,\u201d Chieng continued. \u201cIn fact, I saw him tell a really funny joke this morning.\u201d Chieng then played a clip of Vance addressing press in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he claimed the \u201centire\u201d Trump administration \u201crejects pay for play, we reject anybody getting rich off of their connections to the government\u201d.<\/p>\n

Chieng could only laugh. \u201cMaybe JD\u2019s right \u2013 when have you seen allegations of corruption in the Trump administration?
