In a post, the company <a href=\"https:\/\/go.skimresources.com\/?id=87443X1797501&amp;xs=1&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.etsy.com%2Fseller-handbook%2Farticle%2F1522733284810\" rel=\"sponsored nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">says that<\/a> \u201cmany active buyers say they can\u2019t tell which items involve AI-generated content\u201d and that sellers are \u201cconcerned about your work appearing alongside items that use AI in misleading ways,\u201d spurring the new policies and restrictions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">Under the new policies, every listing must include \u201cat least one unedited photo of the actual item against a real background,\u201d and all photos must \u201caccurately represent the item a buyer will receive.\u201d The photos that aren\u2019t the first one can be edited with software or AI-powered tools, as long as \u201cthe final result remains an accurate representation of the physical product.\u201d The company shared a few examples to demonstrate the type of misleading images that are prohibited, including the cat stuffed animal at the top of this post.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">While uploading images for a listing, if Etsy detects that any may be AI-generated, the platform will show a pop-up where you can note if an image was made with AI or not, <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/QHMQbCF5PeM?si=q_0yfa70OZ6Cy9Ps\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">as shown in a video<\/a>. If a buyer reports that what they receive is \u201cmaterially different\u201d from a listing, a seller may be responsible for a refund.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">For sellers who offer \u201cfunctional guides,\u201d which include patterns, recipes, or instructions,\u201d Etsy says that the information in those products \u201cmust be your own work, not generated by AI.\u201d Sellers will have to show an \u201cactual result\u201d made from a guide.
