Writer-producer Erin Foster, who created the Netflix smash “Nobody Wants This,” assures fans that she and series star Adam Brody have maintained a positive working relationship despite differing views on the Israel-Gaza war.

Brody, who was raised Jewish, called for a “free Palestine” in an interview with GQ last month. When asked by “Not Skinny but Not Fat” podcast host Amanda Hirsch to address Brody’s comments, Foster described the situation as “complicated” and noted that she and the “The O.C.” actor do not share the same beliefs.

“Our set is very similar to dinner tables around the world where people are having debate and discussion and disagreeing,” she explained in a preview clip from the Oct. 27 episode of “Not Skinny but Not Fat” that appeared on Entertainment Weekly Friday.

“While I love Adam, I also disagree with him,” she added. “And that’s OK.”

Foster, whose other credits include “The New Normal” and “Barely Famous,” converted to Judaism shortly before marrying music executive Simon Tikhman in 2019.

“Nobody Wants This,” which premiered on Netflix in 2024, follows a budding romance between a young rabbi, Noah (Brody), and an agnostic podcaster, Joanne (Kristen Bell). Foster has previously confirmed that the romantic comedy series, which unveiled its third season this week, is loosely based on her relationship with Tikhman.

In her “Not Skinny but Not Fat” interview, Foster described “Nobody Wants This” as “a love letter to Judaism” and said she hopes the show’s Jewish fans will feel seen and understood as they watch the current season.

“The show has always been and always will be a love letter to Judaism. That is why I made this show,” she said. “It’s because of how beautiful of an experience I’ve had becoming Jewish and being a Jewish person. And sitting here right now, at this time in the world when there is almost zero positive representation of Jewish people, I think it’s so important to have that.”

She went on to note: “Everyone is entitled to a different opinion. I can just tell you what I created this show for, and what the intention of the show is.”

Brody, married to “Gossip Girl” actor Leighton Meester, did not mince words about his stance on the Israel-Gaza war in his GQ chat.

“Put me down as thinking it’s a genocide. Put me down as wanting a free Palestine,” he told the outlet. “It’s awful that it’s taken so much death and misery, but it does feel like it’s reaching a breaking point that it should have a while ago. I’m hopeful that another administration can really do some good and correct some of these policies that are helping that situation be as awful as it is.”

Elsewhere in the interview, he agreed with writer Savannah Sobrevilla’s assertion that Hollywood has become more conservative since President Donald Trump returned to power in 2024.

“Between COVID, a second Trump term, Israel-Gaza, it’s really brought out some different beliefs that I was ignorant to, and then disheartened by,” he said.

Not surprisingly, Brody’s comments on Israel drew a fair amount of criticism from “Nobody Wants This” viewers, as well as a professional colleague.

Rabbi Steve Leder, who worked as a technical advisor on the premiere season of “Nobody Wants This,” posted a video to Instagram Sept. 29 in which he tore into Brody’s “truly shocking” stance.

“There is no genocide in Gaza. There are genocides in other countries happening, but you failed to mention any of them,” he said in the clip. “Being so flippant about a word like genocide ― ‘Hey, put me down for genocide,’ like you’re asking for a table for two at Craig’s ― is disgusting.”

Celebrities’ varying stances on the Israel-Gaza war have remained a contentious issue in Hollywood. Last month, singer Ed Sheeran was thrust into a firestorm of negative press when rapper Macklemore was dropped as his opening act after expressing support for Palestine.

Though Sheeran has maintained that Macklemore’s exit from the tour wasn’t his decision, the backlash has persisted.
