That\u2019s according to Vinland Saga\u2019s creator, who apologised to fans while confirming that a potential season 3 \u201cis not currently in progress.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Makoto Yukimura\u2019s Vinland Saga is perfect. I cannot overstate this; it\u2019s comfortably earned its spot in my top three, nestled somewhere between Mob Psycho 100 and Fullmetal Alchemist. Yukimura\u2019s manga ended in mid-2025, after 20 years in publication, and I am so glad I got into this one late. Waiting for over a decade for Thorfinn\u2019s story to conclude would have driven me up the wall.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, if you\u2019re an anime-only watcher, I have bad news\u2013or rather, Yukimura himself does. As spotted by <a href=\"https:\/\/otakukart.com\/sorry-my-friend-i-have-no-good-news-vinland-saga-creator-makoto-yukimura-says-season-3-is-not-in-production\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">OtakuKart<\/a>, the author revealed in a post on <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/makotoyukimura\/status\/2113144803156525290?s=20\" rel=\"nofollow\">X<\/a> that there are currently no plans for a follow-up to MAPPA\u2019s second season of Vinland Saga.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Sorry my friend, I have no good news about that. The project is not currently in progress.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 \u5e78\u6751\u8aa0 (@makotoyukimura) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/makotoyukimura\/status\/2113144803156525290?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow\">October 22, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In response to a fan (who, devastatingly, even has a profile pic of Thorfinn) asking if there is \u201cany good news for the third season\u201d of the anime, Yukimara confirmed it\u2019s \u201ccurrently\u201d not on the cards: \u201cSorry my friend, I have no good news about that. The project is not currently in progress.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On one hand, this isn\u2019t too surprising. MAPPA is stretched thin at the moment. Chainsaw Man: Assassins Arc and the fourth season of Jujutsu Kaisen are currently in the works, and the studio has three new anime projects (Beat &amp; Motion, Oblivion Battery, and Fall In Love, You False Angels) scheduled for release in 2027.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, it is a surprise that a third season of Vinland Saga hasn\u2019t even been optioned yet. That means one of two things: best-case scenario, we probably won\u2019t see a third season until 2029\u2013at the earliest. Worst-case scenario, the sales of Vinland Saga\u2019s Blu-rays were so bad that MAPPA passed on producing season three.<\/p>\n<p>I couldn\u2019t find any exact sales numbers for the second season, but I do have some good news: season two of Vinland Saga was the <a href=\"https:\/\/about.netflix.com\/en\/news\/what-we-watched-a-netflix-engagement-report\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">third most-watched<\/a> anime on Netflix between January and June 2023.
