\n\tOwen Thiele<\/a> hasn\u2019t been on dating apps recently.<\/p>\n

\n\tFor good reason. <\/p>\n

\n\tHe and his boyfriend, celebrity stylist Jared Ellner, have been together for 10 years.<\/p>\n

\n\tBut that doesn\u2019t mean he can\u2019t help friends find love. Thiele stars in a new ad campaign for Tinder<\/a>\u2019s Group Hangouts, which lets groups of friends meet other groups.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn the spot, from twin sister directors Fa and Fon Watkins, Thiele channels Sir David Attenborough as he observes and narrates Gen Z dating \u201cin the wild\u201d and what happens when they start meeting people via Group Hangouts.<\/p>\n

\n\tIt\u2019s a full circle moment for Thiele and Ellner. \u201cI\u2019ve never told anyone this, but when Jared and I were dating for just a few months, a Tinder representative asked us to do a campaign for them,\u201d Thiele says. \u201cIt was so strange. It was literally like three months into dating.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThey sat for a photo shoot. However, Thiele recalls, \u201cOur faces were cut out and it was just our hands interlocked. So our hands are somewhere on a Tinder ad.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tI caught up with Thiele recently for an exclusive chat about Tinder, Anton and Paul Baker\u2019s future on \u201cAdults<\/a>,\u201d the \u201c13 Going on 30\u201d sequel and working with Connor Storrie<\/a> in Molly Gordon\u2019s A24 comedy \u201cPeaked.\u201d<\/p>\n

\t\tYou\u2019ve had a boyfriend for 10 years, so when was the last time you were in the dating pool?\t<\/p>\n

\n\tI haven\u2019t been in the dating room for a second, but all of my friends, most of my friends, are single. I\u2019m constantly trying to help them. I\u2019m constantly matchmaking. But it never goes well. I shouldn\u2019t be in charge of that. That shouldn\u2019t be something that I\u2019m in charge of. Luckily, there\u2019s an app now where they can do it for you.<\/p>\n

\t\tHave you had any success setting friends up?\t<\/p>\n

\n\tActually, yes. A friend of mine is dating another friend of mine that I set up. They\u2019ve been dating for eight years. <\/p>\n

\t\tYou\u2019re doing a little Sir David Attenborough cosplay in the campaign.\t<\/p>\n

\n\tI\u2019ve been doing ads for Tinder on my podcast, and they\u2019ve just been such a collaborative, great partner. And then they approached me with this ad, and these two beautiful twins, Fa and Fon, directed it. These gorgeous girls directed this and came up with this fun idea where I was bird-watching, but it was actually people-watching. I was like, that sounds like something I would do. I would sit in a park and watch people all day if I could, and just read them. I signed on immediately.<\/p>\n

\t\tBut you didn\u2019t do a British accent.\t<\/p>\n

\n\tI didn\u2019t do a British accent, which is honestly the best, I think Tinder would have taken a fall of some kind. Stocks would have been down if I had done that.<\/p>\n

\t\tAnton and Paul Baker kiss at the end Season 2 of \u201cAdults.\u201d<\/a> A third season hasn\u2019t been greenlit yet, but if it does, do you think Anton and Paul Baker will be together?\t<\/p>\n

\n\tOh my God, I don\u2019t know. Honestly, the writers have not told us anything, and they do this on purpose because of things like this. If they had told me, I would have said, \u201cMarc, they\u2019re going to be together. They\u2019re getting married officially.\u201d I think Paul Baker and Anton have found a really beautiful way to communicate that feels very honest and open and real. But I\u2019m wondering what that would be like if they were actually in a relationship. I think right now it\u2019s easy for them to communicate because they have this kind of will-they or won\u2019t-they tension that\u2019s building. But once that\u2019s gone, what will happen? Anton\u2019s crazy. Anton yells a lot. He\u2019s constantly screaming. So I don\u2019t know. I don\u2019t know.<\/p>\n

\t\tYou\u2019re also in the \u201c13 Going on 30\u201d sequel. Are you nervous about trying to live up to the original?\t<\/p>\n

\n\tYes, it is a sequel, but it\u2019s a new thing. I don\u2019t think it in any way does it try to be this iconic film that we all know and love. I feel very lucky to be a part of the lineage, I love \u201c13 Going on 30.\u201d<\/p>\n

\t\tWhat was it like when Jennifer Garner walked on set<\/a>? That must have been surreal.\t<\/p>\n

\n\tI wasn\u2019t there because I had left for the day already. This is what happened: I get in my car, and I\u2019m driving away as I see a black Escalade, and I was like, \u201cTurn around, Owen, turn around, turn around.\u201d I tried to turn around, but the security guard was like, \u201cThere\u2019s no more spots on the lot.\u201d I\u2019m like, \u201cNo!\u201d<\/p>\n

\t\tYou also have \u201cPeaked,\u201d<\/a> directed by your childhood friend Molly Gordon.\t<\/p>\n

\n\tShe\u2019s been directing me since we were two years old when we were in a play together, \u201cBeauty and the Beast.\u201d We were two years old at the Adderley School, and I\u2019m not kidding. She\u2019s one year older than me. I have memories of her telling me where to stand. <\/p>\n

\t\tAnd your podcast guest Connor Storrie<\/a> is in it. Did you get to work with him, or were you driving off the lot that day too?\t<\/p>\n

\n\tI got to stay for that one. We have a few scenes together. He\u2019s so brilliant. In every single interview, I somehow accidentally, but also on purpose, bring up Connor Storrie. There\u2019s now this tally on Twitter that\u2019s going around that I just saw recently, which is how many times can Owen Thiele bring up Connor Storrie? I read it being like, \u201cThis has to be fake.\u201d But there\u2019s proof for every single mention. I bring him up every time I can.<\/p>\n

\t\tWhat is it like now working with him after the crazy success of \u201cHeated Rivalry?\u201d<\/a>\t<\/p>\n

\n\tHe\u2019s genuinely so humble and so down to earth and so wonderful and deeply cared about making Molly happy. He\u2019s so collaborative. In one scene, I have like one line and he was like, \u201cAm I giving you what you need?\u201d I was like, \u201cFor my one line? Yes.\u201d He cares so deeply. He\u2019s genuinely a very well-trained actor. I come from an improv background where we\u2019re constantly cutting each other off. I learned from him on set.<\/p>\n
