Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:<\/a>TSLA<\/a>) CEO Elon Musk predicted that robots will drive more memory demand than everything else on Earth, a view analyst Shay Boloor sees as a potential volume story for Micron Technology Inc. (NASDAQ:<\/a>MU<\/a>) and SK Hynix Inc. (NASDAQ:<\/a>SKHY<\/a>). <\/p>\n

Robot RAM Demand Will Dwarf Everything Else <\/p>\n

In a post on X on Monday, Musk said that robot RAM needs “will exceed everything else on Earth” because robots must be on physical substrates to shape atoms. <\/p>\n

Counterpoint Research projects humanoid robots will need 20 times more dynamic random-access memory by 2030, with memory per robot more than doubling to 39GB from 19GB today. <\/p>\n

Micron, SK Hynix in Focus <\/p>\n

In response to Musk, Futurum Equities’ Boloor said that Tesla producing 10 million Optimus robots a year would require about 720 petabytes of memory at 72GB per robot. <\/p>\n

He noted that robots use low-power memory chips rather than high-bandwidth memory and the opportunity could become a “much bigger volume story” chipmakers Micron and SK Hynix as AI expands beyond data centers. <\/p>\n

Last month, Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra said that “physical AI can become a significant driver of memory and storage demand<\/a> by the end of this decade.” <\/p>\n

Optimus Timeline Remains Early <\/p>\n

On the third-quarter earnings call last week, he said first customer deliveries are targeted<\/a> around the end of next year, and reaching 20,000 units a week at the Fremont line will take at least a year. <\/p>\n

The company has reportedly placed a first large-scale order<\/a> for about 5,000 Optimus units, which it hasn’t confirmed. <\/p>\n

Price Action: Tesla’s stock climbed 5.21% to close at $391.62 on Monday and rose 0.41%in extended trading. <\/p>\n
