Elon Musk has released an AI-generated rival to Christopher Nolan\u2019s The Odyssey after pledging to make a version \u201ctrue to the art of Homer\u201d.<\/p>\n
Having criticised the hit movie<\/a> in the summer, the tycoon said he would use Grok Imagine<\/a> to make a \u201chistorically accurate\u201d adaptation.<\/p>\n The initial results have been released on X in the form of a seven-minute episode<\/a> made in conjunction with Wonder Studios, a London-based startup.<\/p>\n Musk had objected to Nolan\u2019s casting choices <\/a>\u2013 such as black actor Lupita Nyong\u2019o as Helen of Troy \u2013 and used the blockbuster as a vehicle for reciting his views on diversity, equity and inclusion.<\/p>\n The Tesla tycoon had promised to make a \u201cfull-length movie<\/a>\u201d version of Homer\u2019s poem before the year ends but is sticking to a film released in episodes.<\/p>\n The Greeks make land. The team behind the first episode said they would seek to make improvements in the second episode. Computer-generated: @Imagine<\/p>\n The first episode starts with Odysseus agonising over whether to join the Greek forces in their attempt to sack Troy. He then sails from Ithaca, his home island, with his men crying out for \u201cvengeance\u201d before they make land and start fighting.<\/p>\n The episode ends after 10 years of conflict, with Odysseus holding, ominously, a wooden figurine of a horse.<\/p>\n Xavier Collins, the co-founder of Wonder Studios, said the first episode was made in less than two weeks with a creative team of three, including the US-based director Dev Walker. It is understood to have cost tens of thousands of dollars. Nolan\u2019s version cost $250m (\u00a3188m) and was shot in multiple locations over 91 days with a vast crew. It has made $1.8bn at the box office.<\/p>\n Despite Musk\u2019s criticisms of Nolan\u2019s film, the creative team behind the latest take on Homer<\/a> are supporters of the summer blockbuster.<\/p>\n Collins said he was a \u201chuge fan\u201d and told the Guardian: \u201cWe were not given any direction to make it [Musk\u2019s version] anti-woke or anything like that.
