The core staffing review at Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services has found that simply increasing the number of staff won\u2019t cut it in terms of improving the overall system.<\/p>\n

The review, conducted by Deloitte, was released Monday afternoon.<\/a><\/p>\n

It concludes that while \u201ctargeted\u201d staff increases will be required in select areas, sustainable improvement \u201cwill not be achieved through headcount increases alone.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ultimately, the report says that will happen through \u201credesigning how care is delivered and how the workforce is deployed and supported.\u201d<\/p>\n

The report identifies unlocking capacity within the existing workforce through \u201cbetter support, more efficient processes, and precision staffing approaches\u201d as a main priority.<\/p>\n

Some of the changes it recommends include enabling team-based care models, aligning roles to full scope of practice, reducing non-nursing workloads, strengthening education and onboarding capacity, and addressing \u201csystemic barriers\u201d like patient flow and \u201cinconsistent\u201d tools and supports.<\/p>\n
