Marco Pierre White<\/a> has finally revealed the reason he went years without speaking to his former proteg\u00e9, Gordon Ramsay<\/a>. <\/p>\n The chefs had been close friends in the late 1980s, back when Ramsay was working at White\u2019s Michelin-starred London restaurant, Harvey\u2019s. <\/p>\n Their relationship later soured \u2013 though reasons for this had remained unconfirmed, with one rumour alleging that White made Ramsay cry during his final service in 1989 after the Kitchen Nightmares chose to leave Harvey\u2019s to work at Le Gavroche. <\/p>\n Speaking to The Times<\/a>, White denied rumours that he was angry at Ramsay for leaving Harvey\u2019s. \u201cLies,\u201d he told the publication. \u201cI got Gordon his job at Le Gavroche. It was me who arranged it. Why would I f*** up his job if he was leaving? Tell the truth.\u201d <\/p>\n The 64-year-old also disputed reports that their feud began over an overcooked red mullet that came in during Ramsay\u2019s last day at Harvey\u2019s. \u201cNo,\u201d White said. \u201cMe not speaking to Gordon has nothing to do with white fish.\u201d <\/p>\n White also poured water on rumours that their friendship fell apart due to a scenario involving blocked access to a steamer, which reportedly ended with White saying to Ramsay: \u201cYou\u2019re like dog s*** \u2013 always in the middle of the road.\u201d <\/p>\n \u201cThose words are not in my vocabulary,\u201d White told The Times. He did, though, confirm Ramsay\u2019s recollection of that final day at Harvey\u2019s during which he \u201cbawled\u201d his eyes out. \u201cThat\u2019s true,\u201d he said. \u201cGordon cracked.\u201d <\/p>\n The real reason White cut off contact with his former proteg\u00e9 is related to his wedding in 2000 to his ex-wife Mati Conejero<\/a>. <\/p>\n \u201cGordon bringing TV cameras to my wedding \u2013 that\u2019s why I didn\u2019t speak to him for years,\u201d White said. \u201cWould you be happy if I brought a camera crew to your wedding? Why bring it up? Let sleeping dogs lie. Not clever.\u201d <\/p>\n The Independent has contacted a representative of Ramsay for comment. <\/p>\n Earlier this year, during an appearance on The Louis Theroux Podcast, White insisted that the pair had buried the hatched, saying: \u201cI liked Gordon. He was kind. He worked hard for me.\u201d <\/p>\n The former friends have reunited in a new BBC<\/a> series titled The Rise of the Rockstar Chef, which also features Hestom Blumenthal. The series will see the trio delve into the \u201cfights, fall-out and feuds\u201d that characterised their early years in the restaurant world. <\/p>\n
