(WSBT) \u2014 Elkhart and Kosciusko counties have each reported a case of measles as Indiana continues to see a rise in infections amid a nationwide resurgence of the disease.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Indiana Department of Health, the state has reported 74 known measles cases this year, up from just 10 cases last year.<\/p>\n<p>LaGrange County is among the hardest-hit areas in Indiana, with at least a dozen reported cases.<\/p>\n<p>Health officials point to declining vaccination rates for the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine as a contributing factor to the increase.<\/p>\n<p>Early symptoms of measles can include a runny nose, cough, fever, fatigue, loss of appetite and sensitivity to light. Other symptoms may include pink eye and small spots inside the mouth. A rash typically develops later.<\/p>\n<p>Health officials encourage people to make sure their vaccinations are up to date and to contact a healthcare provider if they suspect they may have measles. Because the disease is highly contagious, anyone experiencing symptoms should call ahead before visiting a medical facility.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"ELKHART, Ind.
