Architecture studio B\u00fcro Ole Scheeren<\/a> has revealed designs for the Suseong Continuum, a snaking, concrete<\/a> art gallery<\/a> in Daegu, South Korea<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Set to be built within the city\u2019s Yeonhwaji park, the 364-square-metre gallery was designed specifically for showcasing digital art.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Berlin-based B\u00fcro Ole Scheeren<\/a> designed the gallery as a continuous space, without any enclosed rooms and or doorways, in a bid to reflect the \u201cflows\u201d of digital art.<\/p>\n

\"Suseong<\/p>\n

\u201cWe wanted to build a gallery without traditional thresholds: a gradient of realities that morph into one another as you gradually move through the space,\u201d studio founder Ole Scheeren said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe substance of digital art is not rooted in the physical domain of distinct objects and isolated experiences\u2026 it exists in a world of overlaps and connections, where one condition potentially flows into the next.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLandscape, circulation and exhibition become a continuous experience,\u201d the studio added.<\/p>\n

The Suseong Continuum gallery was unveiled as part of this year\u2019s Suseong International Biennale, which invites architects to realise permanent public works across Daegu.<\/p>\n

Commissioned by the Suseong District Government, the design by B\u00fcro Ole Scheeren is expected to open for the biennale\u2019s 2028 edition.<\/p>\n

Once complete, visitors will access the space via a winding path, from which the gallery was designed to emerge as an extrusion.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Conceived as a \u201ccontinuation of the landscape\u201d, the gallery\u2019s twisting volume will be partially embedded into the park\u2019s topography and oriented toward a nearby lotus pond.<\/p>\n

Its structure will be built using board-marked concrete to create a rough exterior texture. Inside, this textured surface will transition to smooth concrete walls for projecting media onto.\u00a0<\/p>\n

According to B\u00fcro Ole Scheeren, the gallery\u2019s layout and materiality were designed to reflect the transition from the park\u2019s natural landscape to the digital interiors.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\"Suseong<\/p>\n

\u201cTechnology is often seen as an opposite to nature,\u201d Scheeren said. \u201cWith Suseong Continuum we wanted to explore how we can create a way of extending the way we perceive the relationship between both domains \u2013 a journey that starts in the park and that seamlessly carries you into the digital realm.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is no single moment where one world ends and the other begins, it is a continuous transformation.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat begins as natural landscape gradually transforms into digital media,\u201d the studio added.<\/p>\n

Renders of the gallery\u2019s stripped-back interior reveal its immersive exhibition spaces framed by curving walls.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A layered ceiling will run the building\u2019s full length to conceal all lighting and technical infrastructure, which was developed by the studio in collaboration with the Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe interior unfolds as a spatial gradient in which light, sound, enclosure and immersion shift gradually along the visitor\u2019s route,\u201d the studio said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cCurving walls widen into open spaces and tighten into passages; atmospheres transform rather than switch,\u201d it added.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The design will remain on show at the Suseong International Biennale until 22 November.<\/p>\n

In Shenzhen, China, the studio has revealed plans for skyscrapers with \u201cwaterfall\u201d facades<\/a> and its design for the R\u00f3ng Museum of Arts is currently under construction<\/a>.<\/p>\n
