Chrissy Metz<\/a> is weighing in on the benefits that go beyond the scale.<\/p>\n

Two months after the This Is Us<\/a> alum shared she had begun using a GLP-1\u2014a Type II diabetes medication that can also be prescribed for weight loss\u2014she reflected on the other health benefits she has experienced\u2014namely, the strength to handle a four-month stint in Broadway’s & Juliet, which ended last month.<\/p>\n

“Honestly, being able to run around a stage eight shows a week was really amazing,” Metz told Entertainment Tonight<\/a> in an interview published Oct. 28, before noting that inflammation in her body was “really minimized” thanks to the drug.<\/p>\n

And that relief was great because, as the 46-year-old put it, “I’m perimenopausal. I got knee issues. There’s things going on.”<\/p>\n

As for the benefit that Metz said has been “super, super helpful”? She said, “The mental capacity to have other things to think about than obsessing about the food noise and all that.”<\/p>\n

Still, the Emmy nominee has previously admitted that she was “very skeptical” about GLP-1s until a friend presented her with “very thorough” research about the medication, which is how she learned there were benefits beyond weight loss.<\/p>\n

As she explained to E! News<\/a> in August, “I didn’t know that I could quiet food noise and I didn’t know there were other factors.”<\/p>\n

Now, Metz\u2014who admitted she knows people will be opinionated about her use of the medication\u2014wants others to see her experience as one that “opens up conversation” about all types of decisions.<\/p>\n

“There are people who, not even with medication, but want to try things in their life,” she continued, “but are afraid of what people are going to say, and don’t do it, and perhaps don’t find the life that they want, or the joy that they want or deserve because we’re so transfixed on what people think about our choices.”<\/p>\n

And in the end, Metz emphasized about the medicine, “Again, I was the biggest skeptic. I was like, ‘No, no, no, no, no.’ So, I hope it enlightens people to an option that might be right for them.”<\/p>\n

“It’s helped with inflammation,” she noted. “It’s helped with just overall health lab work and blood work and just generally just an overall feeling of space and creativity that the food noise has quieted. It opens up just more ability to be present.”<\/p>\n

Sharing her desire to do away with the idea that the medication is a “shortcut,”<\/a> she explained, “As an athlete and as someone that has done everything, I just couldn’t get my weight to where I needed to be at a healthy place.”<\/p>\n

“One of the things that I realized the very first time I took a GLP-1 was that all these years I thought that thin people, those people just had more willpower,” she noted. “They ate better foods. They were able to stick to it longer. They never had a potato chip.”<\/p>\n

But when she started her regimen, she realized “that, ‘Oh, they’re not even thinking about it. They’re only eating when they’re hungry and they’re stopping when they’re full.'”<\/p>\n

They added, “As I’ve lost weight and I got into [Pilates classes at] Solidcore, my body has never looked like this,” Jonathan said. “My body’s never in my whole life\u2014I’ve always wanted to have an ab. I’ve never had abs. And I feel really good, so I’m taking my shirt off a lot.”<\/p>\n

Despite losing 70 pounds with the help of the drug, Jonathan re-emphasized their stance on body positivity.<\/p>\n

“I’m all about body neutrality,” they continued. “The way that you look does not define your worth, doesn’t define your lovableness. You are worth love and worth celebration no matter what your body looks like.”<\/p>\n

However, she resumed what she called her “GLP-1 journey” in March 2026, writing on Instagram<\/a> that she was “being really intentional” about her usage this time around.<\/p>\n

“For me, it wasn’t just about weight\u2026 it was about feeling better, having more energy, and actually trusting the process instead of rushing it,” she continued. “I wanted something that felt transparent, supportive, and realistic for my lifestyle.”<\/p>\n

The Golden Globes host fiercly defended the use of Ozempic in March 2025, calling for people to be more open about using the medication.<\/p>\n

“I love it. I’m like, ‘Do it,'” she said on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon<\/a>. “I have no judgment. If you want to do Ozempic, hell yeah, girl.”<\/p>\n

She added, “I want people to feel more comfortable talking about doing it, because I feel like there’s this shame,” she continued. “The shame is only from thin people who want you to stay fat. “I tried everything,” Lizzo told host Trisha Paytas during a June 2025 episode of the Just Trish<\/a> podcast<\/a>, before explaining why she wound up ditching GLP-1 medications early on in her journey. “Ozempic works because you eat less food, yeah? So if you eat right, it makes you feel full. But if you can just do that on your own and get mind over matter, it’s the same thing.”<\/p>\n
