Outside of the <a href=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/earth\/earth-atmosphere\/earths-atmosphere-a-multi-layered-cake\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Earth&#8217;s atmosphere<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.universetoday.com\/articles\/moon-albedo\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">dark Moon<\/a>, which shines by reflected sunlight, appears a <a href=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/image-article\/apod-2003-november-9-apollo-17-lunarscape-a-magnificent-desolation\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">magnificent<\/a>ly brown-tinged gray. The <a href=\"https:\/\/greenflash.photo\/portfolio\/colors-of-the-moon\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">featured image<\/a> highlights a collection of apparent colors of the full moon on Earth, documented by one astrophotographer over 10 years from <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/G0EUqGhYZ6Y\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">different locations<\/a> across <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Italy\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Italy<\/a>. A <a href=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/image-article\/apod-2022-november-11-blood-moon-ice-giant\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">red<\/a>&#8211; or <a href=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/image-article\/apod-2026-january-20-io-in-true-color\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">yellow<\/a>-colored moon usually indicates a moon seen <a href=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/image-article\/apod\/apod-2026-august-1-buck-moon-and-belt-of-venus\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">near the horizon<\/a>. There, some of the blue light has been scattered away by a long path through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/general\/what-is-earths-atmosphere\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Earth&#8217;s atmosphere<\/a>, sometimes laden with fine dust. A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.loc.gov\/everyday-mysteries\/categories\/astronomy\/item\/what-is-a-blue-moon-is-it-ever-really-blue\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">blue-colored moon<\/a> is more rare and can indicate an atmosphere carrying larger <a href=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/earth\/earth-observatory\/a-dusty-journey-146122\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">dust particles<\/a>. What created the purple moon is <a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.akc.org\/content\/hero\/bulldog_rib_bone_hero.jpg\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">unclear<\/a> &#8212; it may be a combination of several effects.
