Yesterday evening, as people everywhere traded their typical night-out fits for spooky, theatrical costumes, Gracie Abrams<\/a> dressed up for a special Halloween edition of Saturday Night Live. Serving as the musical guest for the October 31 installment, which saw Inde Navarrette<\/a> as the host, the \u201cThat\u2019s So True\u201d star took the stage in a handful of on-theme looks.<\/p>\n

For her two-song set, in which she performed the lead single from Daughter From Hell, \u201cHit the Wall,\u201d and gave her latest release, \u201cHere You Come, There You Go,\u201d its live debut, the singer pulled inspiration from Baz Luhrmann\u2019s Romeo and Juliet (1996). More specifically, she looked to the pivotal Capulet mansion costume party, where the young lovers meet and fall madly in love at first sight.<\/p>\n

The film, which helped launch the careers of leads Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes, was defined by its vibrant, modern take on the classic text, combining traditional Shakespearean language with contemporary music, fast-paced editing, markers of youth culture, and custom looks from Prada and Dolce and Gabbana. Its most famous scene saw Romeo dressed as a prince in shining armor and Juliet as an ethereal angel.<\/p>\n

Putting her own spin on the two iconic looks, Abrams took the stage as Luhrmann\u2019s Romeo, wearing armor layered over a \u201990s Hawaiian shirt. Second, she gave Danes\u2019s angelic Juliet a modern high-fashion update, turning to Matthieu Blazy\u2019s Chanel for a long white silk dress<\/a>. Pulled from the 2026 M\u00e9tiers d\u2019Art collection, the piece took over 600 hours to complete, and featured a low scoop neckline, delicate pleating, and intricate embroidery\u2014with 30,000 glass beads, 2,000 crystals, and 33,000 silver sequins. The musical guest paired the piece with angel wings, of course.<\/p>\n
