some buyers have reported problems with the Duo’s screen<\/a>. <\/p>\nLast week, the company said it would replace any handsets that were affected by an issue that caused a “small number” to crack along the inside fold.<\/p>\n
As it released its latest financial figures on Monday, Apple’s executives did not mention any problems with the iPhone Duo. <\/p>\n
Ternus said he was “thrilled” by the early reaction to the foldable phone. Chief operating officer Sabih Khan said the company was working hard to get the Duo “into the hands of our customers as quickly as possible”.<\/p>\n
Apple’s results for the three months to 26 September did not include sales of the Duo, which was released at the end of October.<\/p>\n
Nevertheless, Apple said it had sold more iPhones globally over the last year than ever before. <\/p>\n
iPhone revenue for the quarter rose 17% to $57bn (\u00a342bn). <\/p>\n
Sales of Mac computers also grew over the three months by 27% to a record $10.7bn.<\/p>\n
Overall, Apple’s sales between July and September rose from $102bn to $114bn. Pre-tax profit also increased, from $32.8bn to $36.1bn.<\/p>\n
However, sales for both the iPad and Apple’s wearable products, including its headphones and watch, fell by 10% and 7%, respectively.<\/p>\n
Khan said that most Apple devices were still experiencing supply constraints driven in part by difficulty in getting enough microprocessors with advanced nodes.<\/p>\n
Those components are essentially computer chip technology that allow Apple devices to operate more quickly, most of which it has manufactured through TSMC, which is based in Taiwan.<\/p>\n
Khan said the problem was expected to continue into next year, particularly impacting iPads and Macs.<\/p>\n
The situation has been made worse by what the company has repeatedly insisted is “unexpected demand” for its products.<\/p>\n
Ternus noted, too, that Apple is still seeing “unprecedented” cost increases for memory, or the ability of devices to store data like apps, photos and text messages.<\/p>\n
