Residents in Perth<\/a>\u2019s northern suburbs<\/a> now have greater access to chemotherapy services after the opening of a new infusion suite at Glengarry Private Hospital.<\/p>\n

The $3.2 million Waratah Infusion Suite in Duncraig was officially opened last Wednesday night by private provider Ramsay Health Care.<\/p>\n

The oncology services have been established at the hospital in the former maternity ward, which closed in December 2023 after being transferred to Joondalup<\/a> Private Hospital.<\/p>\n

The suite is set to reduce travel times for patients in Perth\u2019s northern suburbs, many of whom previously may have had to journey into the city for private chemotherapy.<\/p>\n

Glengarry chief executive Steve Cohen-Jones said the opening of the chemotherapy service at the hospital was a significant development for the community.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile Glengarry Private Hospital has been serving the local community for almost 50 years now, this is the first time we have offered chemotherapy,\u201d Mr Cohen-Jones said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome of Australia\u2019s top oncologists, led by pioneer and leader in innovative cancer care, Dr Andrew Dean, have joined us, giving locals access to leading-edge medical oncology treatments.<\/p>\n

\u201cTime is of the essence when it comes to treating cancer and our rapid-access service enables GPs to refer newly diagnosed patients for a same-day or next-day oncologist consult.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Cohen-Jones said cancer care often involves multiple appointments, ongoing treatments, and regular hospital visits, so being treated close to home may help ease the burden on patients and improve their overall experience.<\/p>\n

\u201cGlengarry, in collaboration with sister site Hollywood Private Hospital, also has highly skilled nursing, allied health, support staff and volunteers who bring in-depth knowledge of cancer care and chemotherapy,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cTogether, the doctors, staff and volunteers form a first-class team, experts in their field who bring with them skill, experience, compassion and understanding.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, around 169,000 new cases of cancer were diagnosed in Australia<\/a> in 2024.<\/p>\n

It is estimated that the annual number of cancer cases diagnosed in Australia may surpass 200,000 by 2034.<\/p>\n

With cancer rates on the rise, Mr Cohen-Jones said oncology was a priority area for Ramsay Health Care.<\/p>\n

\u201cRamsay is aiming to improve patient outcomes through high-quality care, expanding access to oncology services and pushing the boundaries in new treatments and research,\u201d Mr Cohen-Jones said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith oncologists available on site every weekday, patients can be assured of rapid, expert care when they need it most.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite case numbers increasing, cancer survival rates in Australia have also risen over time, with five-year survival rates increasing from 55 per cent in 1991\u20131995 to 71 per cent in 2016\u20132020.<\/p>\n
