The FCC has <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.fcc.gov\/public\/attachments\/DOC-415057A1.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">submitted a proposal<\/a> to revise \u201cunnecessary\u201d requirements for internet service providers to itemize every fee on monthly bills, citing that it \u201cmay confuse customers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">The proposal comes in response to complaints by ISPs over a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/4\/10\/24125572\/fcc-broadband-nutrition-labels-isp-deadline-today\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Biden-era transparency rule<\/a> that took effect in April 2024, arguing that their self-inflicted billing complexity made it impractical and burdensome to list every fee they impose on consumers. Compliance with the rule requires that ISPs either create a broadband \u201cnutrition label\u201d that makes it easier for consumers to accurately compare plan prices and avoid hidden fees, or include those hidden charges in the overall price.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">The FCC isn\u2019t seeking to ditch itemized labels entirely, it\u2019s specifically targeting requirements for making labels inclusive of location-based fees, machine-readable, multi-lingual, and available to customers over the phone and on online account portals.
