Exactly one week after Swift dropped her 12th studio album, Perry supported her fellow pop star \u2014 with whom she previously had a complicated relationship<\/a> \u2014 by sharing the track “Eldest Daughter” to her Instagram Stories<\/a>. (Perry is in fact a middle child, with an older sister and a younger brother.)<\/p>\n The post came after Perry attending Swift’s record-breaking Eras Tour<\/a> in March 2024. At the time, the “Firework” singer, 40, shared a series of snaps and clips from the concert on Instagram, including a smiling selfie with Swift, 35, backstage. She captioned the post, “got to see an old friend shine tonight \u2665\ufe0f\u2728,”<\/p>\n In an interview in July 2020 on the Howard Stern Show<\/a>, Perry opened up about why they decided to put aside their differences<\/a> following a years-long feud that seemingly inspired both Swift’s \u201cBad Blood\u201d and Perry’s track \u201cSwish Swish.\u201d<\/p>\n At the time, she said that she and Swift wanted to publicly bury the hatchet and set “an example” for their younger fans.<\/p>\n \u201cGossip in life can take the elevator but the truth takes the stairs. It just takes time,\u201d Perry said at the time, adding that their feud was exaggerated by the media and they are now \u201csuper friendly.\u201d<\/p>\n “What I\u2019m so grateful for is we did get to make up publicly and got to be an example of redemption for young girls,\u201d she continued. “I always wanted the best for her and now we can talk about the best we want for each other.\u201d<\/p>\n Getty<\/p>\n Katy Perry and Taylor Swift in Beverly Hills in January 2010<\/p>\n The year prior, the pair reunited in Swift\u2019s\u00a0\u201cYou Need to Calm Down\u201d<\/a>\u00a0music video, with Perry wearing a burger costume and Swift dressed as french fries.<\/p>\n During an appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres Show<\/a> in September 2019, Perry explained that the path to their reconciliation began<\/a> when she \u201csent a literal olive branch<\/a>\u201d to Swift\u2019s\u00a0Reputation\u00a0tour.<\/p>\n \u201cThen we started seeing each other out and about and I just would walk up to her and say, \u2018Hey, how are you?\u2019” Perry continued. \u201cIt\u2019s like, we have so much in common \u2014 there\u2019s probably only 10 people in the world that have the same things in common \u2014 I was like, \u2018We should really be friends over that and share our strengths and our weaknesses and our challenges.
