\n\tSpanish production and distribution powerhouse Onza<\/a> is heading to Cannes with \u201cGluten Free<\/a>,\u201d a feel-good comedy that has become pubcaster RTVE<\/a>\u2019s most-watched comedy premiere in the last 10 years.<\/p>\n

\n\tCreated by Araceli \u00c1lvarez de Sotomayor (\u201cAlpha Males,\u201d \u201cMuertos S.L.\u201d), together with Javier Aguayo and Germ\u00e1n Aparicio, the series is produced by Onza in association with RTVE and Prime Video<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cGluten Free\u201d bowed Oct. 8 to a standout 17% audience share, 1.21 million viewers and 2.9 million contacts on RTVE\u2019s flagship network La 1, blending humor, emotion and redemption in a character-driven story, suggesting a strong international format potential.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe show follows Ricardo, a once-celebrated chef who loses his restaurant, reputation and confidence due to alcohol abuse. Forced to move back in with his widowed mother Marga \u2014 an independent woman none too pleased to see him return \u2014 he begins a reluctant new chapter.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tWhen Ricardo accepts a job teaching young people at risk of social exclusion in the same culinary school where his career began, he \u00a0discovers an unexpected recipe for renewal.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u00c1lvarez de Sotomayor described the show as \u201ca very ensemble comedy, with a wide age range and many intertwined conflicts.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cEverything is handled with humor, but the characters\u2019 struggles are powerful. You grow very fond of all of them.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201c\u2018Gluten Free\u2019 is a heartwarming series that, under a feel-good comedy format, explores major themes of everyday life,\u201d said Gonzalo Sagard\u00eda, CEO at Onza.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIts launch has marked RTVE\u2019s best comedy debut in the last 10 years, a testament to its perfect tone and character design.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tErika G\u00f3mez, Head of Sales at Onza Distribution, added: \u201cIts feel-good tone, universal characters and emotional depth make it an ideal candidate for local format adaptation.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe successful launch of \u201cGluten Free\u201d also reflects RTVE\u2019s broader strategy to replicate its strong daytime fiction success in primetime, following hits such as \u201cValle salvaje\u201d and \u201cThe Vow.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe series is bold and fresh, helping us reach new targets and a wide audience,\u201d noted Jos\u00e9 Pastor, RTVE\u2019s director of Film and Fiction, during its presentation in September at Vitoria\u2019s\u00a0FesTVal.<\/p>\n

\n\tA Expanded Range of Audiovisual Services\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tOnza, the company behind global successes such as \u201cThe Department of Time,\u201d \u201cParot\u201d and \u201cLittle Coincidences,\u201d will present \u201cGluten Free\u201d as one of its highlights at Mipcom<\/a> 2025.<\/p>\n

\n\tAt the same time, Onza will spotlight its expanded range of audiovisual services, spanning content development, production, international sales, and legal, financial and tax structuring.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Madrid, Los Angeles and Miami-based company aims to leverage Spain\u2019s world-class production infrastructure and talent pool, varied locations and competitive tax incentives to attract global partners.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u2018Neuer,\u2019 Slovakian Procedural Crime Series<\/p>\n

\n\tA further standout in Onza\u2019s Mipcom slate is \u201cNeuer,\u201d a procedural crime series from Slovakia\u2019s KFS Production. Directed by Michal Koll\u00e1r and based on V\u00e1clav Neuer\u2019s bestselling novels, the eight-episode show premiered Sept. 14 on TV JOJ to a 24% share, ranking as the night\u2019s most-watched program.<\/p>\n

\n\tOnza will also showcase docuseries \u201cVulnerables,\u201d a three-part exploration of youth mental health created by Gonzalo Sagard\u00eda and directed by Gustavo Ron and Sagard\u00eda himself.\u00a0<\/p>\n
